Go to UMBC or something. |
1. that's not what I stated. 2. females who were capable of doing the work were not allowed. That is different from "holistic" admissions for DEI. Women and poc were purposefully kept out high learning. That is different. You seem to think that women and poc are only able to get into college because of DEI. That's so sad. |
You are being simple, that is not what PP implied (but you know that). Not only were women and POC discriminated against in medical admissions, they have received inferior medical care because their voices were not at the table. They’re perspective has been a missing element in medicine, and practices have changed as their numbers have increased. |
| LOL this was me 30 years ago. Except I chose a middling SLAC over Cal. No regrets though. |
That is an A-Hole statement. My DC is in the top 10% in his class. UMBC is an OK school whereas UMD is a very good school approaching UNC Chapel Hill quality. |
Apparently, your DC wasn't good enough to get into UMD. You're the one crying about Maryland taxes paid and all. Find other options within MD, or stop whining. |
DP. There are fewer seats in the UMD freshman class, than MD HS students in the top 10% of their class. So this isn't a Montgomery County problem. Your sense of entitlement may be. |
I think they mean the area is a dud, not the school, and a spring admission sucks for a Freshman. |
Let's not go here. This is rude. And, as a prof in the hard sciences, I disagree with this anyhow. The URMs at my university in the major where I teach are, on average, *more* accomplished both before and after graduation than many other kids. (The students I see struggling the most are honestly international students, which schools, yes even the need-blind elite ones, take for reasons of money and sometimes prestige depending on the applicant). DEI is not a "hook" at the T10 school where I teach. The reality is that in 2023 excellence requires *more* than just great scores. And I say this as someone who would also be shut out now, because that was my resume, too. It's a bummer but we all need to adapt and ask more holistically what a successful person should be like now. An elite college isn't an entitlement for anyone, and honestly isn't even needed. Most of my successful (and especially self-made wealthy) friends and colleagues didn't go to a fancy undergraduate school. |
I hate the preppy lacrosse culture over there. |
Agree!! Lacrosse, Old Bay, genius alumni, 3rd highest entering SAT scores in the big ten, more national championships.. Nobels, Pulitzers Blah Blah Blah.. Even the letters “UMD” are pretentious like U medical doctor or something. Give me Indiana any day. |
| Indiana is an extraordinary beautiful campus with lots to do. College Park sucks. Your daughter is smart, and congrats to her! |
HOOSIERS!! BLOOMINGTON! Yee Haw!!!
|
Lots to do 😂 |
It’s OK that world-class opera isn’t your thing, or competitive cycling, or hiking, or a ridiculous number of student clubs, or intramural sports, or rowing, or restaurants and bars (way better/way more than College Park), or live music (WAY more than College Park), or ice skating, or art galleries, or… -Person who has lived, worked and studied in both Bloomington and College Park |
