Many, many Big 3 parents think that way. They just don’t voice it publicly. |
Not people I know or choose to spend time with. Nope. Cuz that's obnoxious. Meanwhile, I have neighbors with kids at our local public school who have said they don't like going to a place (that they had to go to for something) our a different part of our county because of the riff-raff. This place is PERFECTLY fine and that I have friends and family living there. I think you are projecting things onto private school parents that are NOT private school parent issues but wealth issues that ALSO exist in public schools. Why is it that people move to certain school districts? Why is it that people are against bussing? |
Yet you refuse to hear what anyone has told you about that. Ending my contribution to this thread now. OP - I wish you luck. You clearly have lots of time to mull on negative energy. |
YOU DID IT. |
Since you're engaging, may I ask how familiar you are personally with "Big 3" parents and students? I ask because I know so many families where one sibling went to a Big 3 and the other went to public school. |
I'm really curious about how you know what other people are thinking if they don't voice it? I want that superpower. You are clearly a parent who does not have kids in private school and think that parents who do are somehow different, other than the fact that their kids go to a different school than yours. |
I am a "Big 3" parent. The college counseling at my kid's school is pretty good. However, they don't know it all. My DD applied to many international universities. The information here was very helpful in understanding the process. |

Refer to this thread if you want to know about the Big 3 - it's pegged at the top of Private School GDS, Sidwell, Cathedral schools (NCS/STA) There about six schools in the Big 3. See Independent School Board for these fights. Add Holton, Potomac, and Maret to GDS, Sidwell, NCS/Albans. Basically, "Big 3" is a euphemism for a top area private where monied, connected, or other elites send their children. Or -if you are at Sidwell, NCS, STA - it's those 3 OR if you are GDS you add yourself by combining NCS-STA into "Cathedral schools" As the parent of an 8th grader applying for 9th out of a well regarded K-8, I'd call GDS the Big One. It seems to be the holy grail now. |
