Haven't you seen how Asian parents push their kids? No down time. They're having them count billboards while driving down a highway. It doesn't mean the kids are smarter than other groups. It means the parents push them. |

I love the fake testimony of non-Asian posters here. "My kids did not get any enrichment at home" "My kid was able to make it to TJ after the new revised admission policy that took every B student" "My kid has an onlyfans site and got into Harvard business school" Ha ha!
Are any Asian parents so stupid to follow your example? We will continue to make sure our kids excel by investing in their education, sports, EC activities, jobs, internships etc. We do not care if the achievement gap turns into an achievement chasm or achievement grand canyon. Let the non-Asians continue to lower standards and dumb down America further. We have learned to ignore these slackers and duffers. |
| Asians breastfeed their infants. Obviously they will be smarter and more intelligent. Nature and nurture, both helps to build up their intelligence. |
Yep, Stuyvesant is actually high FARMs. Close to 50% FARMs and the FARMs group is disproportionately Asian, especially the kids of poor working class Chinese immigrants in the outer boroughs. |
Amazing. So the Asian-American kids started out advanced and then became even smarter in higher classes? 22% (Asians) vs 18% (White and URM)? Holy moly. Has anyone done a study of intelligence in the first year of life? Or measure the brain activities of children when they are in ES? It would be fascinating. |
I agree with this. Part of the pushing is that working class Asians see academics for their kids as the only way out of poverty—it’s their only chance and their golden ticket. Their base school if they don’t get into a magnet is usually horrible and dangerous. Parents can’t move and work three jobs in the city. UMC Asians don’t have the same pressure. They’ve already made it out of poverty. If their kid doesn’t get into a magnet, their base school is ok and/or they can afford private or to move to the suburbs in Long Island or Westchester. |
So non-Asian parents are slackers? They should have done better? |
Check your racism. When non Asians ask their kids to count billboards it’s a cute Instagram hack to get their kids to stay occupied and learn! How wonderful! When Asians do it it’s “pushing” and “ tiger parenting.” |

I don't understand. Non-Asians know what needs to be done to have high performing kids, but choose not to do it. But then they are butt-hurt that their kids are not high performing?
Maybe their children inherited their intelligence? |
| What to do? What to do??? |
I would say it’s more a difference between immigrants and 2nd generation kids. Many Asian immigrants come from a culture where cram schools and tutors are the norm, so they make their kids do it too. Kids who grow up here see it isn’t so necessarily and don’t push their kids the same way. |
Many here argue they're smarter. Let's be honest at least. |
Hmm, not sure what you mean here. My child and his experiences are very real. An intelligent kid does not need a lot of outside “enrichment.” And outside supplementation does not make a child any more intelligent than they already are. |

+1 this board is eye opening in terms of racism toward Asian Americans |
