They were reportedly watching TV in the next room over. So they heard a gun shot, but didn’t hear it break glass and cause a mess one room away?

It doesn’t make sense.

There’s a difference between a gun shot, where the noise of a tiny amount of broken glass being shattered will be muffled by the noise of the gun, and a hammer hitting a window/door and shattering glass all over.
