Diversity of schools - can this work both ways? Am I being unreasonable?

The bitter meanies have arrived at the thread. Conversation probably over unfortunately.

Middle school feeder for Eastern is Eliot Hines which has similar issues, actually even worse in the violence department I think

Middle school is key decision point because puberty hits and with it behavioral problems

I could maybe risk it in high school for college admission purposes

Maybe your kid is just a loser.

O.M.G. What is wrong with you?!

Oh I’m sorry. We should just assume it’s all the black and brown kids that are the problem, purposefully ostracizing their kid? and not guess that their precious baby isn’t a weirdo?

Do you think it makes sense to try to find a school district where the schools, or at least the ones your kids will go to, reflect the distribution of race found in the general population in this country? Or perhaps they should reflect the distribution of race in the jurisdiction they draw from. If that's the case then I think if one chooses to live in that jurisdiction why would they then complain about the school population reflecting the area populaton?

So it’s ok if the black and brown kids ostracize a kid just because the kid is weird? Doesn’t really put those kids in a very good light, does it? Or is it you that has a poor attitude toward black, brown and weird kids?

I’m certain that you have chosen in life to form strong bonds with all of the people you find most creepy? Or perhaps little Liam is coming to school espousing some of the same biased ideas and with the same superiority complex that so many parents on these forums have, certainly these things are picked up on… causing him to be the outcast.

Wow, you are here assuming that a proportion (large enough to bring up here) of white middle schoolers in majority minority schools are loners because they have inherited a superiority complex from their parents? Wow. This warrants its own thread.

Hmmm. So now the kid is creepy? You seem to be moving your goalposts. It looks like it is you, and not the black and brown kids, who has biased ideas toward all 11 yr olds.

Creepy is a synonym of weird. The only people moving the goalposts are non POC doing gymnastics in search of reasons to keep schools segregated. Just call a spade a spade.

I never made such an assumption but go off.

Ok, so, if we are sticking with weird, you are saying it’s ok for kids to shun other kids as long as the other kids are weird? Or black and brown kids only shun the weird kids and that’s ok with you? Really?

There are not enough kids of all backgrounds to create diverse schools proportionally reflective of our overall society across the city. That's why people flock to some schools and not others.

This thread is ridiculous. The majority of schools in DC are diverse. No UMC family, who has options, is going to send their kid to a school where less than 1% of the kids look like them. The few that do are way outliers. Sounds like OP is one of those to even consider. Good luck with that OP.

Not sure how we ended up here, but the more I read about OP the more I realize she's really creepy.

The great majority of DC public schools enroll 0% Asians, including all 3 of the Ward 6 DCPS programs currently. We are the minority group without confidence in DCPS programs EotP past elementary. Nobody cares.
