Can we just agree that the only way democracy will be saved is if we all vote Democrat in next

I’m a Jimmy Carter-Jerry Ford pragmatist.

I think one advantage of voting for Democrats is that they have broad but weak support from big business. If the Democrats do truly crazy things, big business will quickly shut them down.

When Republicans go crazy, but do a good job of doing what the business lobbyists generally want, then big coporations might hold their noses and support crazy people, or even evil traitors, even though the executives are horrified.

Another problem is that authoritarian or totalitarian right wingers like Putin can end up with so much power that no one can shut them down.

So, yeah: the AOCs and the Sanders people are extremely arrogant idiots when it comes to policy. Even when they have what might be a good policy, they don’t accept input from anyone who knows how to implement anything. Hillary Clinton is so wonky she might make an insane idea work pretty well, for a few years. AOC and Sanders types could take a great idea and run it straight into the ground. The best strategy for Republicans in Congress who sincerely hate AOC’ and Sanders’ proposals is simply to vote for the proposals as is, and give them everything they want.

But, in the real world, grownups can usually steer Democratic administrations toward sanity.

Maybe they usually could do that with Trump 2016-2020, too, but the Roe v. Wade ruling is a sign that the safety rails are off on the Republicans’ side. A President DeSantis or an Emperor Trump could be do whatever the heck he wanted.

Putin did not attack Ukraine while Trump was President. That is a fact. He chose to do it when Biden took over.

GOP did not fix the border issue either.

At least GOP wants to fix the border.

Biden administration says it is “secure.”

Oh, very happy to see what they did during 2016-2020. Other than build useless pieces of wall that enriched their friends.

Biden doesn’t want to close the border. Trump did. DeSantis WILL.

When did Trump close the border?

Trump didn’t close the border. Idiot and brainwashed Fox idiots think he did.

FTR, I’m a lifelong Dem.

You can compare #s of immigrants who crossed under Trump vs Biden. While trump didn’t 100% close it, the #s decreased dramatically under Trump and then jumped once Biden took office and started rolling back Trump policy. That’s a fact. The #s of kids and adults entering each week are available online.

Why do people care so much about this? I honestly don't see how it affects you at. all.

Except that you enjoy remarkably affordable landscaping, housecleaning and childcare.

Check your privilege.

I live in a solidly middle-class neighborhood and the influx of undocumented immigrants has changed our neighborhood completely over the past 25 years. It affects my family’s life on a daily basis - schools, illegal rentals in the neighborhood, uninsured drivers, etc.

It may not affect your life (except for your cheap labor source) but for some middle-class Americans, it has had a strong effect on our lives.

Cool story, bro.

Yeah, that’s the response I would expect from my liberal, progressive, Democrat neighbors. Thanks for solidifying why I can no longer support the Democrats. You have all made it abundantly clear that you don’t care about me or my family.

I am a pro-choice female with female daughters, but just like the other PPs, I am not a single issue voter.

Yes, I care about abortion rights, but I also care about many other issues.

Democrats made it clear that they didn’t care about our kids when they kept my kids out of school buildings for over a year.
Democrats made it clear that they didn’t care about my kids when they tried to force Covid shots on our young kids.
Democrats made it clear that they didn’t care about me when they forced me to quit my job when I didn’t want to get an unnecessary booster (DC).
Democrats make it clear that they don’t care about my girls when they push trans athletes into female sports.
Democrats make it clear that they don’t care about my girls when they don’t care about female students being raped in school restrooms (Loudon County).
Democrats make it clear that they don’t care about my family finances, my neighborhood, my kid’s schools, crime, illegal immigration, etc.

I’ll be voting for whoever I can that is NOT a Democrat.

And, they have made it clear that they don't care about public safety with their "defund the police" efforts and progressive prosecutors who refuse to do their jobs.

Montgomery County. Big push to ‘defund the police’ and remove SROs from schools.

Did not go well this past school year. At all.

why do you need SROs in school, do you feel the ones at Parkland and Uvalde were helpful?

LOL. This is not the own you think it is.

Putin was counting on Trump to dismantle NATO if he was reelected. He wasn't, then he went for it anyway.

I don’t understand the mentality that makes migrants the no. 1 voting issue. Especially when there’s no recognition that if we actually helped stabilize Latin American countries people wouldn’t want to come up here. Cons say you can’t ban guns because people get them anyway. Just like with abortions and migration. Desperate people do desperate things. We have a worker shortage. Increase legal immigration. Figure out what can be done to improve life in Latin America. That will reduce illegal border crossings. Just like giving free contraception and boosting sex ed decreases abortion rates. But cons refuse to do anything except use authoritarian, rigid tactics.

DP.
For me, it is not just the illegal immigration.
It is the fentanyl. The record number of deaths from fentanyl poisoning. The daughter of a dear friend just died from fentanyl poisoning. She was 32.
This is the number 1 issue for me. Because of Biden's border policies and his inability to even begin to secure the border, we have a record amount of fentanyl coming in. And, he is doing NOTHING about it.
He has made this country far worse since he had taken office.... domestically and IRT foreign relations.

No way in hell I am voting for any Democrat who will be a yes vote on anything he wants. No way.

He literally expanded NATO.

Did the fentanyl deaths stop during Republican terms?

I work in West Hollywood and your article is misleading. The LA Country sheriff decrease in WeHo is being replaced by community social workers. Our problem homeless and vagrancy and we need people equipped to handle their mental illnesses. It’s the right move for this tiny, 1.7 mile city.

+100

And, they have made it clear that they don't care about public safety with their "defund the police" efforts and progressive prosecutors who refuse to do their jobs.

Who defunded the police? Give us an example.

West Hollywood, for one.

https://www.foxla.com/news/defund-la-county-sheriff-whats-next-for-west-hollywood-after-voting-to-cut-deputy-funds

NYC, for another.
https://abcnews.go.com/US/nyc-cuts-1b-police-budget-amid-calls-reform/story?id=71552471

And, liberal districts don't need to cut funding to achieve their "defund the police" goals. They have made it so unpalatable to be a police officer, many are struggling to keep officers. Ask NYC and Chicago about their struggles in maintaining a full police force.

I work in West Hollywood and your article is misleading. The LA Country sheriff decrease in WeHo is being replaced by community social workers. Our problem homeless and vagrancy and we need people equipped to handle their mental illnesses. It’s the right move for this tiny, 1.7 mile city.

If you say so. I give it a year. When crime increases, we can revisit.

Economy is cyclical. If you have a GOP plan, I'll be happy to take a look at it. I have not seen any.

There are dozens of children being SLAUGHTERED in schools in the US on a monthly basis but you are concerned about one rape case involving a trans?

You think the chance your daughters get raped by a trans in a school bathroom are higher than the chance of them needing an abortion?

You QUIT your job because of a booster requirement of a vaccine that has no proven health side effects? You do know that many employers require you to take even the common flu shot, right? And that you are required to take a dozen vaccines throughout your life to function in this country or any country on earth?

You think immigrants who are working 12 hour days in agriculture, meatpacking, Amazon warehouses are taking in more money is government services than the value they provide? In a country with a labor shortage?

Wow, you need to learn how to asses risk and stop watching so much FoxNews.

I will agree to that. And no third party protest vote because you didn’t like the Democrat. If the liberals and moderates don’t stick together against the fascist Republicans, we won’t make it.

Right now the Supreme Court cannot be trusted. We need a Dem majority in order to correct the bad SCOTUS rulings and to codify every other needed protection into law. Along with fixing issues of gerrymandering and campaign finance.

A vote for anyone other than a Dem is handing the Republicans a win and bringing even more disaster upon American democracy.
