The Summer I Turned Pretty

I actually think the actress who plays Taylor is the best -- she's convincing as the loyal BFF with the heart-of-gold-buried-under-the-superficial-persona. Shades of Summer Roberts from the OC.

Yes!! Like others I don’t care about Taylor’s mom but I think Taylor herself is awesome. Both the actress and the character are great.

Agree on the Tay Tay love!

I like Steven the best. Belly is stupid and why would you want to marry someone who isn't done with college right before you go to Paris? Conrad is cute but too moody, and Jere is bisexual so its only a matter of time until he switches teams.

I think Conrad and Jeremiah were miscast. Conrad, slightly less so.

My daughter is watching this and I'm like

Yeah we had to turn it off. I thought it would fun to watch with my DD, but it was cringey, gross, and exaggerated. Not only is a trashy lifestyle normalized, but my DD said the book is much more tame. We were both embarrassed and found something more interesting to watch. It’s a shame the screenplay had to be embellished if the book as written was already popular! I didn’t read it, though, so maybe my kid is downplaying things…?

I had forgotten about the Jere being bisexual storyline. I don't think any of the guys on the show are worth the drama the girls create around them. The only one worthwhile is the kid Belly met in the first season who worked at the club (I think). He was a good catch. These other guys are just tools.

Why would either brother meant to be with Belly?

Want to be with Belly

I guess the in-universe explanation is that she represents safety and comfort for them following the passing of their mom. That said, is it mean to say I don't buy their attraction to her? It has nothing to do with looks, as I actually find Lola better looking than the two, but for some reason, I don't believe it.

The true winner(s) will be the one(s) who escape this trite love triangle.

NP. Yes, Cam Cameron! I hope they bring him back this season, because he was the most interesting character, to me. I normally go for the dark-haired, studious guys, but Conrad is emotionally unavailable and kind of a jerk sometimes. At least he's working on himself in therapy? Jere is emotionally available, but he's shallow to the point of being uninteresting--does he have any hobbies or interests besides his frat? Steven ticks all the boxes, like emotional availability and a work ethic, but to me at least, Cam had the most charisma of the four guys.

I normally don't care for the subreddit for this show, since it's nothing but shipping threads made by teens, but I thought this was a really astute analysis about how Susanna and Laurel messed up their kids:

Jere is bisexual? Is this something from the books that hasn't been brought forward in the show yet?

I did not read the books but Jer's bisexuality was addressed in the first season.
