The Summer I Turned Pretty

The only good characters in the show are Conrad and Steven. I find Jere the actor weird looking (save for his pretty eyes), and Jere the character an untrustworthy, immature pig, just like his father.

The actress who plays Belly is decent at acting and average in looks, esp. in season 1, before her glow up. The character Belly is beyond boring and immature. No way would the Stanford doctor hottie be pining for her for 4 years irl. His red head college friend is 10x more interesting, ambitious and intelligent than Belly, so irl that boy would have moved on with Agnes or someone like her long ago.

Nah, redhead is annoying. Belly is boring though, I agree. No personality to her. I read the books too, as a teen, and I don't remember her being so bland. Either my standards were lower or I embraced her more because everything was from her POV.

Lol

He bought her the unicorn!

I was waiting for him to punch Jere in the face on this last episode.

Did I miss where he turned down the lab job at Stanford? Or did he just not show up?

I had forgotten about the Jere being bisexual storyline. I don't think any of the guys on the show are worth the drama the girls create around them. The only one worthwhile is the kid Belly met in the first season who worked at the club (I think). He was a good catch. These other guys are just tools.

Yes! Cam Cameron 100%. But he deserves better than Belly.

No, that was the internship with the doctor. The lab job is the one his red head med school friend got him after he as fired by the doctor. I think that job starts later in the summer.

Wasn’t he leaving to go back for it when he saw belly crying? I assumed he quit it when he decided to stay.

In the scene where he tells Jeremiah and Adam about being fired they talk about it being good to take the summer off and clear his head.

I think this might be right. it's weird that we never saw him talking to his friend about not coming after all. In the episode from Conrad's point of view he talks to her on the phone and it makes it sound like he's going to come and at one point his bags are packed but then he stays to take care of a distraught Belly.

Just finished last night.
My thoughts-
why doesn’t belly have more than 2 friends at bachelorette party? Cause she is up fisher boy drama not stop

No hair and make up professional for wedding? Weird

So Jere is took a job in boston instead of going back to college in fall with belly. She gave up Paris to be in college with him. WTF

During all the drama, I wanted to scream at belly to just go to Paris.

How is the ending different from the book?

Does anyone here have trouble believing Conrad would still be in love with Belly?

I don't mean that in the way his stans mean it. From them, that question is coming from a place of being resentful of Belly. They think she doesn't have a personality and that Conrad is too good for her.

I don't think Conrad is too good for her, but I don't buy that he loves her that much after how hot and cold he was in S1. I know this sounds callous, but I don't know if I buy the fact that he acted that way just because his mom was dying, which is what his stans claim. It was sort of the quintessential "He's Just Not That Into You" situation, but with an element of grief in the storyline. (Genuinely open to be proven wrong if you guys have any real-life examples.)

I really think the years-long gap between seasons is making people forget the way Conrad treated Belly.

I think that by making it a 4 year time jump in the show, it makes it weird that he’s just been pining after her all these years. In the books it was shorter, which seems more realistic. But I think the idea that they’d be considering getting married so young (19 instead of 21) was too much for the series, so they made them older.

Side note, I am obsessed with Conrad’s hands. Chris Briney is so good at conveying awkwardness with his hands.

I agree. It seems like he just wants her so he can "win" her from Jeremiah. He treats her horribly and doesn't have much of a personality. Jeremiah is at least fun and open about how he feels. He seems to truly love her.
