Self protection cannot be just for the wealthy and connected. All Americans are by right entitled to such protection.

Gun violence in America is due to the downfall of the American family, lack of religious upbringing, schools providing “safe spaces” instead of encouraging and supporting honest discourse. Our little snowflakes simply cannot cope. They are self harming, killing themselves and in this most horrific case, killing the most innocent of lives.

This. One hundred percent, this.

Like the Fundies, Southern Baptists, Mormons, and Catholics who all have abused children? Those values?

She was shocked and sobbing.

Enough is enough. I can’t hear the lies anymore.

They were probably sobs of joy because she can’t stand listening to you and your one sided point of view on a daily basis. Friends don’t need to agree on everything in life, they just need to be respectful when they disagree. Sounds like you need work on the respect part, your friend will be just fine without you.

No one needs to "agree" with sociopaths. It's not not a life skill. Yours is not an opinion, but instead it's derangement. Don't YOU DARE try to normalize your dangerous "opinion." It's not an opinion, you are just a horrible person. And you need to know that. That former friend needed to know that.
It's time to say NO.

And I’m certain now she’s glad you said no because you’re clearly more cuckoo than originally illustrated. Thanks for the clarification

You’re calling over half of American households sociopaths because they believe in a constitutional God given right to self protection. You can disagree on the details but again it does nothing to further your argument. The whole “violence will stop when people care more about their children then their guns” is the kind of garbage argument that makes the anti gun crowd feel good while legislators know it’s an issue that can’t be touched. We care about 2A because we love and desire to protect the health and welfare of our children, plain and simple. Let’s debate the details, sure. I think the firearm purchase age will nationally go to 21. Will this stop the horrible decline of human decency in America right now? No.

Their movement is facilitating the executions of children. I’m not saying we should shame responsible gun owners or hunters. But NRA enthusiasts and gun show attendees? People who have personal arsenals? Gun lobbysits? Those who proudly want assault weapons on the consumer market? Yes. Shaming them is the only way forward. Their proclivities need to be seen as niche, cruel, greedy and most of all *backwards*.

We’ve made huge societal strides on issues as varied as corporal punishment in schools, animal welfare and gay rights. Public perception must change and it can begin within families, painful as that may be.

Just so I understand… responsible gun owners are ok. Hunters are ok. But if someone goes to a gun show they are not ok? If someone takes an NRA firearms safety course they should be shunned, shamed? What is your definition of an assault rifle?

I think you’d be shocked by what you see at the average gun show. Every walk of life, every race, color, creed. Gay and straight, young and old, black and white. Families. Old people. Single moms.

Stop blaming republicans. They didn't kill those kids. This was a very troubled young man who didn't get the help he needed from his parents/family, school and community. Lets start there.

You don't understand how this works do you. There are lots of troubled young men, here, and alm over the world- but they kill when they have access to AR15s and other weapons.

You, and those like you, are the reason children are killed. He was the shooter, but he had enablers like people who vote for these things.

Or the people who blame guns when his mental illness was the true problem. How could those in his life, teachers, parents etc have allowed him to run amuck? There is accountability and it has nothing to do with guns. But you keep toting the same old argument, it’s not the problem. Oh, and cops need to be in schools armed and ready to kill. This no gun zone bs killed those kids. Wake the f up people.

Nope. It's you, f*ed up NRA crazies. Did you vote for universal health care and 100% coverage of mental care? I bet you didn't.

I don’t believe in universal health care because I don’t want the government controlling my health care. And for the record I am not a member of the nra. Just don’t believe guns are the problem. If an ass like this monster could not get a gun he would have used something else. Maybe he would’ve killed fewer, but he would still find a way to cause harm.

And those brown kids are fungible, right? Who cares if 15 more of them died than might have otherwise.

Somehow the rest of the developed world doesn't view gun ownership as a god given right, and (I'm sure coincidentally) they have homicide rates that are a fraction of the US's

Enough with the drama. She doesn't need someone like you in her life.

Oh, it's an issue. A BIG one. Certainly there are additional issues, but it is not at all dramatic to take serious issue with anyone who associated with them. - NP

The issue is our culture and parenting.

Actually all of them - court's interpretation of Constitution, NRA/money, politics, culture, low education level, idiots having more idiot babies, entertainment business that sells sex and violence... We are totally f'ed.

Again, do you really think other countries don’t have idiots and bad tv? Come on, one of these things is not like the others!

We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas

Please cite a reputable poll that suggests this. I'll wait.

There are so many stupid, stupid people, arrogant and horrible, selfish and incredibly wrong people who support Republican policies and who have managed to get control of this, with people dying daily as a result.

If you don't fight it, it will be even worse. The last 6 years proved how serious this contingent of people are, this is no different than what happened in 1938 Germany, so
1. Vote with your money
2. Get active in local politics
3. Educate others
4. Never stop talking about it. Never.

Don't get complacent between publicized deaths, because they are counting on that.

Please shut up about Nazi Germany in the 1930s. They had strict gun control. Know your history before you roll out examples; otherwise, you make people advocating gun control look stupid.

Great plan OP, surely cutting her off will change her mind on this issue.

DP. You are completely missing the point of the comparison. PP isn’t saying anything about gun control in nazi germany, it’s about complicity.

My point is that many who advocate gun rights will refer to Nazi Germany gun control over and over again. When you use Nazi Germany as an example, you are starting to bring shades of the other side’s arguments that have been used for years. THAT is why I am saying do not do this. It muddled the message, and also makes the messenger seem as if they lack a deep understanding of 1) 1930s history and 2) gun control fights in the U.S.
