Talk about sour grapes.

Please. If it weren't for all the chatter around their rankings, they'd be out of business. |
Oh no that is incorrect. It isn't an island at all. These kids take over 50% of their classes with the regular school population. These programs are fully integrated into the school. |
The other thing the poster fails to grasp is the vast majority of kids in SMCS are from the DCC. This is also true of TPMS. There are a few W kids but things would be the same without them. |
Not true at all. |
If Blair SMACS is removed...metrics will drop hugelu. SAT average is around 1530 in SMACS. Maybe highest in the country. |
That isn’t true, the magnets were so dominated by the W’s that they had to create a 25 seat set aside at Takoma for local kids because some years had so few that local parents were furious. It is true that most of the magnet kids come from Takoma but most of the Takoma kids come from outside the boundary save for the handout 25 slots |
Most of the W’s aren’t gerrymandered, there are simply a minimum of unwashed masses near by. The real gerrymandering is in the DCC where the difference of a few streets could change the entire makeup of a school. Move the lines in any direction for Churchill or Whitman and you just pick up different million dollar homes. BCC and Walter Johnson were messed with already but it was to pick up parts of Kensington and Silver to boost their Mix not to avoid it. |
I guess you've never looked at the boundaries.
|
It's true. Whitman and Churchill don't send to many kids to the SMCS. Wootton send the most among the W schools and it's around 15 kids. There were threads here from W schools parents complaining of discrimination against the W schools. |
There was a post here a while back that had numbers from a student directory. |
Take Whitman the nicest school in MoCo, draw the boundaries in any direction up to a mile from the existing, hell just double the current zone area in all directions. It still doesn’t touch rockville, Gaithersburg, Wheaton or Silver Spring. It has the nicest parts of DC to the south, the river to the west (with the nicest parts of NoVa there), Potomac to the north and Chevy Chases/Somerset to the east. You expand it all you do is cannibalize some of if not the nicest parts of the BCC’s and Churchills clusters. It will never have measurable FARMs |
