didn't that effect everyone equally? Also Blair is never ranked very highly, this is not an aberration |
| Magnet has been slipping ever since Mrs. Kurshanna J. Dean was appointed head of AEI. She replaced a very competent person and staff, unfortunately. Purely a political agenda behind it, imho. The current board and MCPS CO tapped the last nail in the coffin by turning the Magnet program into a lottery. |
Unfortunately, this is true. A very clear political agenda and our kids suffer because of it. |
| The Blair magnet ranking is still the overall school ranking but among magnet schools only. |
US News is notorious for skewing the data on college listings, whereas certain other rankings by international consortiums of scientists with more rigorous, unbiased data, have much more accurate listings of same. There have been multiple serious publications over the years, discussing the bias of US News, as well as the interesting methods employed by colleges who wish to go up in those rankings. Now for K-12 rankings, I do not know if US News is more or less accurate than other domestic institutions. |
Yep, those rankings changes more than I change my underwear. Those rankings are meaningless. |
Not accurate. A few years ago, there was the scandal where they messed up several MCPS schools data, i.e. Churchill, Poolesville. |
Only elementary CES was lottery base. |
Middle school magnet admission is also by lottery. |
This is a joke. Their top schools are always in the area with the fewest poor people. It tells us next to nothing about the schools. |
+1 |
Between RM and Blair magnet is northwest magnet. What is northwest magnet about? Anyone? |
| The RM and Blair magnets can be inflating the schools' overall test scores, so it's possible the Blair magnet offsets their CAP program |
These rankings seem to be what they've been for the past couple decades, more or less |
| Even if wealth may influence the rankings in a way that might skew the quality of instruction that might be inferred, it would still nonetheless seem to be an accurate measure of overall environment of academic achievement, wouldn’t it? Yes it may reflect wealth that may allow tutors and other supplements, but doesn’t that reflect an overall higher readiness among students in those schools? And isn’t that an appropriate measure? |
