Oh, and Perry almost kept her job. The school board voted 5-4 not to renew her contract. |
Wow! She accomplished a lot more than Hutchings has (or ever will). |
He should absolutely be fired. The superintendent has told parents
not to email him. He sends his kids to private school, he won't talk to parents or the media. Alexandria's parents should not be silenced for speaking up. Did you know that Alexandria parent Facebook groups are being censored if anyone complains about the schools or him? Thank you too the person who gave advice on who to contact. |
Did you vote for your current school board? |
Those groups are run by fellow parents, correct? |
They are, but by the women of PTAC. They disingenuously purport to be for the community to discuss their schools , but they parrot the prepared talking points of ACPS and their hero, Justin Wilson. The boards would rather quash dissent and posts about the violence-filled schools than have respectful dialogue about how to improve. That’s the prerogative of the various admins, but they are definitely not open, inviting forums. |
One of them this morning is claiming she should be immune from criticism because" she's just a normal person trying to help" Get out of the kitchen if you can't take the heat. |
Latest update re the press release and the story gets even sketchier. Basically the mayor pushed for a press release and wouldn’t wait for the Commonwealth’s attorney to finish working in court (he was trying a case all day).
If the law dictates very strictly who has access to information in juvenile cases and what can be released to the public (which is the excuse the city has been using for why so little information can be made public) then how does anyone outside of the court system (hence the commonwealth’s attorney) have the necessary information to make the press release/statement? Wouldn’t only the commonwealth attorney’s office have that? And since he states in this article that his office was not involved in writing it, approved it, not reviewed it as he was in court all day, then something doesn’t smell right, at all. The statement that was released definitely did seem to call the victim a liar and that the public was overreacting. I am just so disturbed by all of this and now different departments in the city are pointing fingers at one another. The mayor should NOT have this much power. His role is just ceremonial, he goes to ribbon cuttings, has a vote on the city council, signs stuff. The person who actually manages the city, with power, is the city manager. I do believe Justin pushed for this press release, and that he has bigger goals and objectives than being mayor and wants to run for Congress in the future. A 14 year old was probably gang raped in Minnie Howard, right before a presidential and city council election, around the same time another local jurisdiction was making national headlines for its mismanagement of the sexual assaults on their campuses (Loudoun). Do I think these influenced how the Alexandria case was handled, absolutely. That poor girl. https://alextimes.com/2022/04/minnie-howard-assault-statement-criticized/ |
Ah yes, what the Mayor refers to as his "mom mafia" and apparently brags around town about controlling. Exploited by the patriarchy and they are cool with it. |
Apparently parents need to cough up nearly $85k if they want the truth.

Well what was requested was unreasonably broad. The estimate ACPS gave was probably too high, but to go through tens of thousands of emails for everyone in the school district for a two year period, which would later require them to be read one by one to be sure you do not violate FERPA in fulfilling a FOIA request would take thousands of hours. They would probably have to hire someone to come in and do only that for months. I am somehat surprised that to do the same for for the shorter period of time was only $1,500. Maybe start with emails more directly related to the question at hand and expand it if you find something you think needs more research. |
m Yes, hopefully the parent making the FOIA will go with the more narrow request to see what turns up. |
