The above statement and article provide nothing. When did the assault occur? Where? What mitigation measures have been taken? What if the victim is undocumented - if so, the court result is unsurprising. This is disgusting, and the local media refusing to press anyone on this is even more troubling. |
These statements are completely tone deaf. First, there is no genuine concern expressed for this victim or sexual assault victims generally. It’s also very dismissive of the incident. Just because the prosecution failed to prove the case at trial beyond a reasonable doubt, doesn’t mean it didn’t occur or that the victim wasn’t in fact assaulted. These cases are complicated and it’s difficult to secure a conviction, often because the victim is too scared or traumatized to pursue it and testify at trial. |
Parents should be made aware of what happened the day it happens. Who cares if the details aren't all ironed out - at least give a brief overview. "A student was attacked. The attacker has been suspended. The investigation continues."
I don't care who did it or where it happened or why it may have happened... I just want to know IT DID HAPPEN! Also, the person who attacks should be kicked out of school. No in-person for them. |
+100 Let’s remember this is the school where last fall after school a bunch of kids (50-75) were basically behind Minnie Howard in the Bradlee Center parking lot and one student got shot, ran into and collapsed inside of Duck Donuts. And not a single witness has come forward naming the shooter. Not one. |
Also in the Bradlee case, the victim has also refused to name the shooter. So in the sexual assault case it wouldn’t surprise me if the victim or witnesses are hesitant to cooperate. |
And the City using the acquittal to try and slither away from the cover-up is despicable. The Mayor’s smug tweet about fringe media, more deflection. I know I am not going to let the silence of ACPS and the unconscionable response of the city deter me from holding those who think parents and community members have no right no knowledge any of this responsible. This is not a left or right issue - this is keeping kids safe. Parents are an essential part of the team to devise ways and offer insight into do just that. |
Pretty sure Justin wouldn't be so smug were it his daughter that got raped. |
This is why we need the Clery Act for K-12 schools: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clery_Act Universities were notorious for covering up crimes on campus to make the school look good. This forced them to report them, basically the day they happened. |
Is the girl back in school? What about the rapist? Is he back at Minnie Howard also? This situation keeps getting worse and worse. |
Are schools not required to report crime now? I didn't know that. Thank you for the link. |
The accused was acquitted in a court of law.
Presumably when the girl was hospitalized, a rape kit test was performed. Was it negative? Are we to assume people are rapist based on accusation, and not conviction? |
But, we cannot assume the defendant juvenile is not a threat based on an acquittal or that information about the incident that was sufficient for a criminal charge shouldn’t have been shared with parents. |
I believe the girl. It is VERY difficult to believe that APD and the prosecutor's office proceeded with an arrest and criminal court case based on a negative rape kit test. Stop throwing out false trails and defending a rapist. There is no doubt in my mind that the girl, the doctors and nurses who attended to her, the police officers and the detectives, and the prosecuting attorneys are much more believable as a group than the rapist and his attorney. The right question is being asked. Is that poor girl back in school and is her rapist also there at the same school? That is an injustice beyond belief if it is true. |
