PSA. Stop saying “frat” it’s very uncool

And by the way, Greek refers to a people and a culture. It's greek when referring to college kids playing dress-up to exclude and haze each other to the point of death, according to AP Style.

Oh, snap.

The large majority of the most successful and coolest women I know were either in sororities or dated and married guys in fraternities, and often both. What I didn’t know was the divergence with the commenters on this message board, although in hindsight I guess it makes sense.

This thread reminds me of a friend who was president of her "residence hall". She objects to the term "dorm". It is quite commonly used and no one cares.

Why are you defensive about your sorority experience then? Why do you care about the word 'frat' so much?

At what age will you stop worrying about being "cool," OP?

NP. I'm just chuckling at the fact that anyone keeps any kind of track of the "most successful and coolest" women they know at all, never mind also keeping track of whether they were in a sorority or married a guy in a fraternity. Do you have a spreadsheet or something? Is that really what you do with your free time and mental energy?

No, I am actually interested and engaged in getting to know the women whom I respect and admire and am friends with, as well as keeping up with the girls--now women--whom I was friends with in college. Perhaps these are just social skills that people develop in fraternities and sororities that you would not understand.

Also, I am not OP. There are more people commenting here than you all appreciate.

Like...ranking your "friends" as "the most" this or "the best" that, and pumping them for information?

Having natural conversations with someone about their time in college is hardly "pumping" someone for information. I get it, you don't understand.

DP. Your defense isn't working. Let it go. It's a bad look to acknowledge this thread, much less care about it.

Cool is a subjective term, and I doubt you (and OP) are widely considered as "cool" as you think you are.

How many rock stars were in fraternities (I don't want to trigger you) or sororities? How many talented artists?

The coolest people in my book are not conformists or social climbers. It's got nothing to do with old money or what college you children attend. For example, Dave Grohl is cool. A woman "bagging a second or third generation lawyer" (as was cited earlier in this thread) is not remotely cool to most people. To each his or her own, but I'm giving you a reality check.

😂 sweet divinity. Is this what I missed by not being in a sorority? I’m feeling pretty okay about that decision. -NP
