You do not understand the logistics of managing one or two campuses versus the logistics of managing 200 campuses?

I do, but I am sure something could be done. e.g. kids bring home chrome books every day, back and forth each day. So, they should then do virtual learning. This is a joke!

Agreed.

Kids DO being their Chromebooks home every day. Even in ES. My 3rd grader does. And so see the little K kids schlepping their Chromebooks back and forth daily.

And that’s why her kids need private school with more individualized attention on the thought process...

NP. She never said she was a private school parent, but good effort on that critical thinking 👍

I agree. As much as it frustrates me since it's just raining, the forecast did call for accumulating snow right when the buses would be out running, kids walking and driving to school. The school systems can only rely on what the forecasters are calling for, and one kid in an accident is front page news.

Snow days are built into the calendar, and if they don't use them, they're out earlier in the summer. So they're going to be off one way or the other.

There were only 2 snow days built into the calendar this year. We have already gone past that.

Work on your own critical thinking and reading comprehension. The poster you’re replying to didn’t say that poster was a private school parent either. She was saying that if you’re upset that private schools are open while MCPS closes, your kids need private school.

You are right PP. My kids go to MCPS in Bethesda. If I had the money, they would be in private though. This is a joke.

But we have already used the allotted snow days, so today will be taken from another day off or be an added day at the end of the year.

Whatever! Does it really matter in the big scheme of things. There is a lot of wasted time in school

If we already gone past snow days, does that mean the school may end later this year. Well, I have already paid the summer camp for week of 20th.

Even at the worst version of the forecast, it was only 1-2 inches of accumulation with all of it melting before the end of the school day. I'm not usually a conspiracy person, but I think MCPS is definitely looking for excuses to close.

As for the first PP who says we should tell the kids to curl up on the couch with a good book... they are 6 and 8, not 68! This buys us like an hour! It's not easy for DH and me to juggle these snow days, and the school's aftercare is at a different school today, so we weren't comfortable doing a drop in somewhere else. I don't mind scrambling when there is a need, but I think MCPS threw in the towel early on purpose and shifted the burden to the parents.

I thought we all hated virtual learning with a passion. It is completely useless

I take it your kids don’t go to any of the 27 schools sentenced to virtual instruction.

It’s worse than useless; it’s a public health crisis.

Life ain’t easy pumpkin. Chill out a little. 6 and 8 year old kids should not need constant entertainment. Let them read for a couple hours. Watch tv for a couple hours. Play for a couple hours. You will survive and so will they

My kids are in private. Be prepared for way more time off. Longer summer and winter breaks and more days off during the year. All for $$$

+1 I stated up thread that precovid, MCPS did not close for snow during the day with the temps above freezing because the snow usually melts by the time they are dismissed.

I posted that I think this is because of covid because a lot of schools are allowing kids to eat outside during lunch to space them apart. Can't do that in the rain, but you can do that if it's cold.

Which begs the question, what are they going to do if it rains a lot in the next few weeks. ugh.

I feel for parents who have young kids and work. I was just telling DH this morning that we are super lucky that our kids are MS/HS so old enough to take care of themselves, and that if covid had happened when our kid were younger, one of us would've definitely had to quit. And that's why you saw so many moms leave the work force last year when a lot of schools went virtual.

I feel for you guys.
