Here is a non medical article from the AAMC - Long COVID can clearly be a problem even in kids who have had mild illness.
https://www.aamc.org/news-insights/scary-and-confusing-when-kids-suffer-long-covid-19 “ Although COVID-19 infections in children are usually not severe, even those with mild cases can suffer from long COVID-19 months later. And studies suggest that long COVID-19 affects children with the same wide and disturbing range of symptoms as adults, from heart palpitations and “brain fog” to difficulty breathing and painful rashes. “It’s incredible to me the number of really high-functioning kids who are completely disabled for a period,” says Alicia Johnston, MD, co-director of the Multidisciplinary Post-COVID Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, which has treated over 100 youngsters since launching in March 2021. “The recovery is a long and arduous journey for many kids.” In recent weeks, COVID-19 infection rates among U.S. children and teens have jumped 32%, and nearly 6.8 million young people have already been infected. As for pediatric long COVID-19 rates, research places them anywhere from 2% to 50%, with some experts suggesting the number is closer to 10%. That means hundreds of thousands of kids and teens will likely be impacted.” |
| Containment efforts will fail, and eventually everyone will get it. |
“Containment efforts.” Something like 50% of Republicans are refusing to get vaccinated and have pretty much gone on with their lives as normal. There are no containment efforts when someone is shooting cannon balls at the dyke. |
So true |
|
How is this a surprise?
You have low oxygen with COVID, it kills brain cells. That is just simple fact. |
I don’t think anyone is surprised by that. But now people are trying to generalize it to any case of Covid, even asymptomatic or low symptomatic cases, even amongst vaccinated people. |
|
Not sure why folks are surprised by these findings - lots of viruses are capable of causing permanent brain damage and other organ damage as well, that’s not a novel concept to science or medicine.

Agree. And this just came out: |
|
Viruses are just no joke, and the most infuriating thing about this pandemic has been how many science illiterates have gone around yapping about this one like it’s no big deal just like the flu WELL THE FLU KILLS TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE EVERY YEAR and it also causes encephalitis that sometimes leaves lifelong debilitating symptoms in child adults and elderly who recover from it.
I will just never understand the people who are ‘meh’ about whether they catch this - or any other- virus. It’s the ultimate roll of the dice, even robustly healthy people can be killed or permanently disabled by viral infections. Vaccines are the single greatest advancement in medicine and possibly in the history of the human race for this very reason, they have saved hundreds of millions of lives over the history of vaccinology. It’s painful to realize that so much of our population is science illiterate and yet so cocksure. |
Dunning-Kruger effect on full, glorious display. The dumber they are, the more they’ve convinced themselves they’re the smartest person in the room. |
DP and agree 100%. Cocksure is the perfect word to encapsulate all the people on this website who try to tell intelligent people that they just have anxiety for being concerned about Covid. It never offended me, but just made me feel pity knowing their hubris may actually hurt a loved one. The chorus of people who aren’t worried AT ALL about their kids getting sick but are solely worried about quarantine are the ones who are really going to be shocked when mother nature proves herself yet again. I really hope people start seriously trying to avoid this virus. Some very concerning evidence is mounting. I don’t want to play I told you so, because it gives me no satisfaction if innocent people get hurt. I just want people to snap out of their delusion. |
I think the people who aren’t that worried about their kids are just better at math than you. Statistical likelihood of anything serious happening to a healthy child is insanely low. |
| Has anyone looked at the effect of covid vaccine on the brain? |
She doesn't want schools to close because it interferes with her me time. That's what it means. I know several formerly healthy people who have had Covid and report brain fog after Covid. Some have had it for over a year and one can no longer live alone. There are lingering lung issues too according to studies. None of us want this to be true. Denying it won't change anything |
