Lockdown at Blair?

Would the SROs have stopped the knife wielder from entering the parking lot? And is there any correlation between school shootings and police in schools?

What we do know is that the pandemic has been associated with overall increases in violent crime. It's not surprising that some of that crime is occurring in schools. We also know that we do not have any actual evidence showing that police in schools reduces violence, and that violence by police against students happens and is real. So maybe you should talk to some of those students before make blithe comments about what type of violence they prefer.

The police caught the suspect and they are in custody because the police were either on campus or close to it.
Had they not been there the suspect would have been free to stab more people.
You really need to take a few days and reflect on the logic of arguing about whether or not the police help reduce crime, dude.

+1 I bet if the ^PP's house was being robbed or someone lurking around their property, they would be happy to have the cops really close by.

An SRO is a deterent. I went to a tough HS, much tougher than Blair. It's like having a parent around vs not. If the parent is around, the kid is less likely to do bad things.

Why do the Principals want SROs? They are on the ground. Not the city council. What do you do for a living?

How many SROs attacked students in MPCS for no cause? How many were charged and convicted of assaulting a student?

Maybe you should talk to the Principals before making blithe comments about how police are bad for schools.

At approximately 10 a.m., two Montgomery Blair High School students were involved in a conflict in the school parking lot alongside Colesville Road. One student brandished a knife and assaulted another student who sustained cutting wounds. Students and staff notified the school administration and Montgomery County Police (MCPD) were immediately called and responded to the school. The injured student was transported to a local hospital, where the student is being treated for non-threatening life injuries. The suspect left school grounds and was returned to school by the student’s parents and taken into custody by Montgomery County Police.

During this incident, the school was placed in lockdown to ensure the safety of all students and staff. At 11:00 a.m. the lockdown was modified to a Shelter-in-Place to assist with the ongoing investigation and allow classes to continue safely. I want to thank my staff, central office personnel and Montgomery County Police for their swift action in securing our campus and ensuring our students were safe. As I always say, “if you see something, say something,” and that was the case today, as staff and students immediately informed us of the incident. I wonder how these people would feel if these people who commit violence because of the pandemic turned that violence onto them. Would they be so forgiving? Actually I really, really don't want a police officer living in my house in case I get robbed. I have other security measures in place, happy to be able to call 911 when needed as was done with the incident today.
