Do you think the VA governor's race will have an impact on NoVA school board elections?

Ladies if you vote for Youngkin his lies you are helping to destroy America for the next generation

As mother’s and women god help us if he gets elected.

I mean it you are missing it. He and the GOP are coming for you and it won’t be pretty. Grand daughters, daughters, mothers, single women good luck because life will never be the same.

Education is as well. That’s why it’s a close race. Local Democratic SBs blew it for everybody else.

Then don't blow it for the state

No, I am actually considering voting Republican for this very reason. This is the one thing that the Dems are wrong on and I don't support them at all. I think it is funny that you think it will "destroy" the next generation when you're supporting killing the next generation.

Ok GOP is better than Dems on one issue, education (they aren't but let's call it a wash) they are still worse on every single issue that they could possibly have power with I called them a death cult in a previous post for a reason because that's what they are they are more than happy to let people and you die to enrich themselves hth

If you vote Democrat, you are for the unions and shutdowns.

We will never vote for people who close other families’ schools, affect minorities the most, and the. send their children to elite private ones that are open.

I am a left-leaning Democrat and have been my whole life. Never once voted for a republican candidate. I am voting Democrat for governor and Republic for any school board positions. I live in Arlington and I think the school board has lost its effing mind and any sense of common sense.

There is no republican running in Arlington for school board. I have heard Kadera is basically a republican but not really. I’m doing the opposite. I’m voting R for governor and D rest of the ticket. I want the mask mandate for kids gone but don’t want Youngkin to actually be able to do any other damage. Terry is so in bed with the teacher union he literally campaigning with head of AFT. When I saw that I decided to vote for Youngkin.

Any parent who votes for McAuliffe immediately abdicates any right to ever complain about public education ever again because a vote for McAuliffe is a vote for silencing parents. His current ad claiming his words were misconstrued are BS. Even national media is calling him out on that lie. He is on tape in multiple formats saying he doesn't believe parents should have a say in their child's education when it comes to curriculum. He said in the debate and to multiple reporters in various on camera interviews. He's a liar who puts politics over parents and kids.

They were taken out of context. The full quote - in reference to when he blocked book banners by vetoing the “Beloved” bill.

“The parents had the right to veto books... also take them off the shelves," McAuliffe said. "I'm not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions."

"I don't think parents should be telling schools what they should teach," McAuliffe added.

DP. Not really. He just seems dumb.

Except McAuliffe repeated this several times in other settings.

He was right to say it. I don’t want creationists to expect equal time. Some parents are idiots, and have no business telling schools what they should or should not teach. Dinosaur Jesus doesn’t belong in school. Also, the FBI got involved in Loudoun because of THREATS. Not to “silence” parents. The FBI doesn’t give a sh** about Dinosaur Jesus, but if you make a death threat against a public official, they will show up, as they should. Any moron who believes these Youngkin ads deserves exactly what they get.

I'm voting for McAuliffe because Youngkin = Trump. I don't necessarily like McAuliffe, but he's the only choice I have right now. Our public education system will really go into the dumpster as non issues such as "CRT" is banned, the Republicans (like in TX) will determine our curriculum instead of the people who work alongside students everyday dumbing down our curricula anyway as we go into Christian fundamentalism education, and SROs will be put back in schools just because BIPOC children truly don't matter.

Oh, and women's/LGBT/BIPOC rights will go into the toilet too. Because, of a single issue.

Yeah I’m a democrat. Was planning on voting for McAuliffe. Decided not to vote for him. Won’t be voting for Youngkin either. I live in Arlington.

I know with Youngkin, our schools wouldn't have closed like they were last year. VA was 44th in the nation for in-person days, and APS was probably in the bottom 10% in VA for in-person days.

McAuliffe the other day refused to comment on school closures last year. Youngkin has been clear that they were wrong.

I know who the closed school activists will be voting for -> Terry McAuliffe.

Or more specifically, I believe that they believe it, but I don't trust them as narrators, and I think they have bad judgment. The "thrivers" on these boards seemed totally nuts last year, so much so that I am deeply skeptical of anything they say.

And, see, I think the people like you, the ones who were screaming "open the schools whatever the cost" were and are mentally unstable hysterics. Our kids did great at home. In fact all the families that I know say the same thing. Are there families that struggled? Sure but I think they were probably struggling anyway. The families I know, with stable and structured home lives, and with parents who prioritized those things, they were fine. Maybe a few of us were cramped and it was nice when the weather warmed up in the spring but everyone being at home was a nice break. There was no stress, there was no need to be running hither and thither. If anything we grew tighter as a family.

If your family didn't do as well, I am sorry. Perhaps you need to think about what you could have done differently.

Yes!

Umm… is this a serious post? I mean I supported school closures. We were in the middle of a pandemic. The virus was a novel virus that we know nothing about snd the priority here was to save lives. However the cost was great and many kids, especially those from working class families and/or families where the parents could not stay at home suffered. Yeah my kids did great. My husband and I worked from home - kindergartener did school virtually. We pulled our 4 year old out of pre-k. Both kids played with each other. During our breaks my husband and I tutored our 4 year old. She was able to attend a virtual class in the morning to learn the language of my country of origin. We saved a shit ton of money, to the point that we could have a third. So yes it was great for us. But doesn’t mean it was great for the majority of kids. The fact that you don’t seem to care makes me doubt you are even a democrat because democrats care about the economically disadvantaged. Absolutely disgusting.

Oh and I supported school closures. Just sick of Democrats not having a plan to improve educational outcomes.

Well, spoiler already: Rs don’t either. They will pull money out of public schools and funnel it toward religious private schools.
