Yes, and that is why Democrats just lost the election. They chose reducing the risk to teachers by causing damage to kids, especially the most underprivileged kids. Essential workers continued working in person the entire pandemic, but not DC area
public school teachers.
The closed schoolers still can't admit they were wrong, no matter how much the common knowledge and conventional wisdom has changed with the horrible evidence coming out of the damage done to kids (and the clear evidence school was safe). If I supported such horrible policies and permanent damage to so many children, I'd be desperate too.
