The Republican strategy is to pretend they're Democrats who are voting Republican. Makes them seem more reasonable. Lots of imposters on this thread. |
Ding ding ding. This is exactly what Youngkin and other Rs will do. |
Keep telling yourself that. I know several long-time Democrats who are voting R this election. |
So, you and your three friends. Okay. |
Now I'm number four. |
You are in denial. There are Democrats who remain staunchly Democratic and will always vote the party ticket, Democrats who still think of themselves as Democratic but cross party lines occasionally, and former Democrats who have switched allegiances and now think of themselves as Republicans or, more likely, independents. I know you want people to toe the party line consistently but that’s not how the world always works. |
*public* school bathrooms |
I usually vote D, but I'm primarily a good government voter. Lately, republicans have gone off the deep end, so I've voted D. FCPS and LCPS seem to have collectively lost their minds. I'll vote D for statehouse, attorney general, and Lieutenant governor, but R for governor. I think that the democrats are starting to take middle class professionals for granted and are more interested in appealing to other constituencies. |
There’s been a lot of money funneled into school board races. |
We'll see next week. We'll see if your bravado is worth anything. |
Citation? |
So you want the guy who is playing footsies with the January 6th people? You think they are interested in the middle class? |
A direct impact? No. These are local positions. Although I highly doubt Youngkin will win, if he does the result will be interpreted, in part, as an expression of disgust about some school boards’ perceived arrogance and weirdness. |
Except you're conveniently ignoring the fact that POC and immigrants did not support opening schools. At my school we had to require them to send their kids last year otherwise we would have had no one. As it was we had 2-3 teachers/staff for every 1 student. We are a Title I school. Our parents did not support hybrid last year and would this year still prefer distance learning. Until you actually know what you're talking about, you should stay out of the discussion. I am feet-on-the-ground. The "economically disadvantaged" POC and immigrant families did not want what you claim they, in your esteemed opinion, needed. |
Fine. Perhaps the pressure will cause radical change in the way the public school systems operate. Competition is good. DC is an excellent example of how the competition of charters caused the public school system to revamp and modify its practices. It was painful and there was a lot of yelling and screaming but there is no doubt at all but the children being educated in DC public schools are better educated now than they were. |
