Wow, this thread is toxic and useless. A bunch of defensive parents hijacking it to promote their own schools and their pet peeves.

We’re a Bruce Monroe family and this doesn’t surprise me at all. Have friends with same aged kids at all of the above listed HRCS, so we can compare what the various schools are doing. Aside from Montessori at LAMB, which is fundamentally different, and really depends on what kind of student the individual kid is.


We are a BM family too, third grade. Agree with your assessment. The issue we see now is the widening achievement gap in the class, mainly based on SES I think. That would be an issue at any DC school that isn’t WoTP. Middle school though is why we have tried lottery every year though. Macfarland is not an option for us. I think in 10 years MacFarland might turn a corner though as more high SES parents stay longer at the feeder schools.


Other BMPV PP here. That’s right, I think the issue exists in all of the non-WOTP schools (DCPS and charter). Have you heard anything about CHEC? It’s a feeder for BMPV too and seems decent. I’m surprised I don’t hear more about it as a back up option.

No, it is not an issue with all EOTP and charters. You should talk about the school that you have experienced with.

It’s totally about the money this ranking just like the colleges. It’s the magazine trying to take in the big bucks. That’s what the college ranking was about after that 1st initial issue.

Now it sounds like the legit money coming from fools who believe their bogus ranking is not enough and resorting to corruption.

While the math and ELA scores are not on par with neighboring schools, Hearst has a much more robust social justice and anti-racism curriculum that kids receive daily, and sometimes hourly, instruction.

There are only so many instructional hours in a day, so occasionally math and ELA may take a back seat to DEI topics. Yes this may impact test scores but it benefits the kids in less measurable ways.

There are many things that other schools can learn from Ross. It's number one because it has more positives than negatives compared to other schools. Ross has high ela test scores, great if that is your criteria It has no indoor gym, which might be a deal breaker for some. Keep in mind the last PARCC scores were in 2019. The next will be 2022. A lot can change in 3 years.

Percentages without taking into account peer to peer still is looking at raw data. You have to compare peer to peer. PP is correct that Ross seems to do better in almost every category than most schools. They seem to deserve their #1 ranking. However, I do still wonder why other WOTP or majority white schools rank higher than Shepherd, some HRCS, or Eaton.

But Ross only has 175 kids (if that). It should be a stellar school with so few students.
