Isn’t it mean-spirited to name your dog a very popular baby girl’s name?

OMG Lucy is a total dog name. My image of Lucy is cute, and sweet, and kind, and loyal. All the things I want my dog and my kid to be.

If I didn't have only boys and an awesome niece named Lucy, I might have used it myself.

My sister named her daughter the same name as our childhood dog.

I know an iguana named Kevin and a ferret named Steve. Frank and Jake are great dog names.

Who cares! Your friend will call puppy Ava Smoosh Face Pumpkin Pie Butt soon anyway. No one calls their dog by the real name. Dogs are funny and they eventually get a nickname.

Lol

I hate pet names that are people names in general. But really it’s not mean just a silly conflation of animal and person.

Not at all, and my daughter has a very common name. We understand some people like human names for their dogs. Our dog has a non-human name, but our parrot has a human name, and it turns out my good friend's niece has the same! I hope they don't feel bad. Our parrot is beautiful and smart and very bossy

Our dog is named Nigel and I’ve only heard of two American kids with that name- one was at summer camp with my kids and the other was on an opposing baseball team. It was startling to hear the adults using the same nickname too! That kid was an amazing ball player and my dog is an amazing pup.

Hahaha my human Peyton would love to meet a dog with the same name

I know 3 little blonde girls and one giant Rottweiler all named Harper.

Also, for the sake of comparison - how many human Maxes do you know? How many canine?

Feels mean spirited to me.

What a peculiar take, Ava's mom.
