Isn’t it mean-spirited to name your dog a very popular baby girl’s name?

I love it when pets have people names. I wanted to name our dog Karen but it didn't fit her personality.

My dog is Lucy. We had just gotten her when the birth announcement for my friend's new baby arrived in the mail. I thought, "Hmmm, Lucy. That's really cute!" My friend (who lives in another state) was amused.

In this world. Tell me your daughter’s name and I’ll respond with, “That’s a dog’s name!” Let me know how it feels.

It is just a name. A human name. A dog name. Just a name. I would love to meet a dog named Elizabeth.

When I was at the vet last week I noted that all the pets had human names. The once’s that I recall were Oliver, Katie, Pearl, Teddy, Stella and Alice.

When I was young my family cat was named Bob.

My dog has the same name as my friend's child-- completely by accident, obviously. We both think it's funny, and the name suits both the dog and the child.

I have a Lucy and don’t care at all.

Not an insult, don’t personalize anything.

That said, my DD has a somewhat cutesy childhood nickname, and an acquaintance of mine, upon hearing it for the first time, laughed really, really hard and then told me that was their dog’s name when she was a kid and went in to explain how the dog had been really annoying with this aggressive bark and they were relieved when she died.

That was insulting. Don’t do that.

Well, if that poster’s daughter is named Spot then I’d guess you’d have a point.

It's weirder to give people pet names.

Laddie/Lassie
Brownie/Blackie
Fido
Fifi
Muffin
Princess
Rebel
Sassy
Sneakers

All dog names I could think of from my 70s neighborhood.

You realize there are people with the name Fifi, Princess, and Rebel, don’t you? There’s a girl in my current neighborhood with one of those names.

This has to be the stupidest post I’ve read on DCUM in a very long time.

And that’s really saying something.

My neighbors have a chicken named Linda. She comes when you call her, “Linda, bock bock bock!” It makes me laugh every time.

I adopted a cat named Claudia once.

Now we have a dog named coffee.

If you adopt, they come with names they know.
