How many PWSI/vda players are on the VDA U19 team? |
| There is no such thing as “stealing” players. That term implies that a club “owns” the stolen player in the first place, which they do not. If a club is incapable of holding onto their players, then that is their fault and not the player’s, parent’s, or destination club. A club that complains about their players being stolen is a club that is insecure about its own ability to coach well, provide high customer service, and, often, to just be good people. |
sorry bud, that's ECNL all-american, https://www.ecnlgirls.com/2021/09/20/ecnl-girls-announces-all-america-teams-and-players-of-the-year-for-2020-21-season/ I know it's hard and you're probably surprised there is such a thing because your team doesn't rep at this level. It's fine tho |
Maybe around 5. Not exactly sure…. but that’s not the point. I’m pointing out the lie of “homegrown” talent and “coaches getting you recruited” US soccer is a pyramid. The base is full of kids. As one moves up, the space gets compressed and kids don’t make the cut, get replaced, quit or try to make another team. All of this while going through puberty and physically developing. If your kids makes it to the top, they become the pool for college coaches. Keep in mind, as the compression happens, players move about. The coaches are more so picking talent vs developing talent. Remember, development and recruiting is on you. That’s why you pay to have your kid in ECNL. The game is the developer. The speed of play, the level of athletic prowess and physicality of the opponents will force one to adapt or be replaced. I know some 08/09 parents don’t understand this yet because the real compression hasn’t happen for you. But it will….every year going forward. One final note. I’ve noticed some younger parents on here saying “U18/19” are aged out teams that don’t care. Nothing can be further from the truth. Take a good look at them next time. They are the kids that made it. 3/4 of the kids they started with them didn’t. |

Facts. ECNL standings to date. Yes, it is still early but early returns indicate that:
Loudoun (yes, Loudoun) has the best young teams and actually has the best oldest team, with two really poor teams at the sophomore and junior ages. VDA has 2 good age groups, with the rest being mediocre. Poor BRYC. Union and Arlington are mixed bags and overall average. Yes, we know that team records are not the ultimate goal in ECNL (rather college signees and scholarships are), but this is one set of facts in choosing a club if you don’t know the coaches and players at your age group. U13 Team Position Record GD Loudoun 1 5-0 17 Arlington 6 3-2 3 Union 7 3-2 -5 VDA 8 3-2-1 5 BRYC 14 0-6 -32 U14 Team Position Record GD Loudoun 4 4-1 6 VDA 5 4-1-1 14 Arlington 6 3-1-1 8 Union 9 1-2-2 -5 BRYC 14 0-6 -26 U15 Team Position Record GD Union 1 5-0 12 Loudoun 2 4-0-1 12 Arlington 5 2-1-2 -1 VDA 12 2-4 -6 BRYC 14 0-6 -20 U16 Team Position Record GD VDA 1 4-0 13 Arlington 4 2-1 1 BRYC 7 2-2 -1 Union 8 2-2 -2 Loudoun 10 1-3-1 -5 U17 Team Position Record GD Union 8 2-2-1 0 VDA 9 1-3-1 -13 Arlington 11 1-4 -11 BRYC 12 0-3-3 -7 Loudoun 14 0-4-1 -21 U18/19 Team Position Record GD Loudoun 5 2-0-3 3 Union 7 1-1-2 4 VDA 8 1-1-2 -1 BRYC 10 1-4 -6 Arlington 14 0-4-1 -7 |
The answer is 5. |
Between all the feeders, ( VSA, PWSI) 7 all together. |
| In other words if your kid is U-little sign with NVSC to get properly developed and when she turns 14-17 have her try out for VDA. 100% your kid will be taken. |
It’s technically 9. Clubs players came from: nvsc, bryc, syc, washington spirit, bryc. There are no players from Loudoun or McLean on VDA U19’s |
Or sign them up with VSA or PWSI and they’re already there. |
LOL @ Loudoun has the best oldest team and younger teams! Pull this post up in April. Everyone knows about Loudoun. Big player pool. Big young players. Poor coaching. Teams fizzle out by 16. It’s very early for LS parents to be referencing standings. |
You have only 5 or 7 (PWSI/VSA) players out of what, 20? The chances look better if the player is from a different club. |
This I don't understand. These aren't contracted players. There's no incentive to go to another club like VDA unless the player/parents think they will win and compete against the nation's best. It's about 75% VSA/PWSI player on every team, 5 to 7 is laughably low and not even close. The U16 team, which is one of the best on east coast, is 15 out of 20 girls from VSA/PWSI, which include the mid-Atlantic player of the year (VSA origins). When other teams complain about losing good players, ask 'why' are they leaving? You get one shot at this ride to college, if that's your goal, and if girls elsewhere want to drive an hour to practice, it must be THAT good. There is literally no other reason to go to a club unless you think it's going to help and if VDA is that place, then best of luck to them. Why complain other than jealous reaction. |
This isn't the way that clubs and parents thought it would be, it is the way things worked out because everyone wanted to change clubs. Although I can see from some of the trainings that I've been to that the coaches don't really attempt to develop or improve a player, they just watch them and see which one comes out on top. There are actually plenty of recreational level soccer dad coaches that train and develop they're players more than other travel soccer coaches. |
Thought we were discussing the U19 team which has the players leaving to college. Isn’t the ultimate goal of ECNL a path to play in college? Or is the ECNL a pro-league where clubs need to draft players to help the club win in the benefit of its brand name? |
