If you SAH, do you clean your own house?

Anonymous
If you are a SAHP, do you do all of the house cleaning, is it done by you and spouse split, or do you hire out? What is your HHI?
Anonymous
Yes, who else is going to do it?
Anonymous
Not right now. House is a complete mess, and since we can afford it, I'm thinking of outsourcing.

Split. I’m a stay at home mom, not a maid.

Cleaning service, maid, housekeeper…whatever you want to call it.

Not talking about day to day pick up, but the actual cleaning: base boards, windows, bathroom scrubbing, vacuum and mopping, wiping down kitchen cabinets, cleaning out oven and frig…all the nitty gritty

Hire- I do the dishes and laundry and stuff like that but actual cleaning of a house is not my forte. Staying at home has nothing to do with cleaning. It’s organization of schedules, time with the kids, errands while they harvest school, being able to volunteer at their school, and taking them wherever they need to go for all of their activities and as such I’m relieving the stress of all that off my significant other. But not cleaning. 🤣

Same here, except we also pay for a service to come twice a month. When we paused the service during COVID I did most of the extra cleaning, but slowly stopped doing things for DH because he never reciprocated or picked up any of the extra chores himself.

Pay. Weekly cleaning lady. I hate cleaning. I’m good with organizing.

We have a cleaning lady. We had one before kids when we were DINKS and there was no reason to ditch her! She does a big cleaning every two weeks.

I do regular cleanups every day, run the stick vac, maintain the kitchen and bathrooms generally. Kids pitch in as requested. Every now and again DH and I will do a bigger project either during the week (me) or on the weekend (him) as needed. DH does some cleaning during the week, but it is stuff like picking up things when he leaves the room or wiping a counter after dinner. He isn't putting out the gloves and cleaning a bathroom!

We have a biweekly house cleaner. I do 75% of the daily stuff and all of the in between vacuuming. I’m a SAHM but I have considerable income from investments and I came to the marriage with the house so it’s not like I’m living off DH’s earnings. Just saying that since people on this board seem to obsess over the concept.

When I stayed home after DC#1 was born, we kept the cleaner because I was eventually going to go back to work, and didn't want to lose our cleaner.

Years later, after DC#2, and I decided to be a sahp for a bit, I cleaned the house, but I could do it because my youngest was in half day preK, which is when I cleaned. I did not expect my working spouse to do much cleaning during the week, but they did do the heavy lifting of the yard work, though I did also do yard work. I lost weight when I was a sahp and cleaning. It was pretty good for my health. Now, I just sit in front of a computer all day, like I did before. I hate working out.

I don't understand the comment about how you are a sahm not a maid, therefore you don't clean. Do you consider yourself a cook, a chauffer because you cook and drive your kids around? Weird comment.

Uhhh yes. I feel like this comes with the territory of being a SAHM.

Not weird at all, some of us do not find any joy or satisfaction in cleaning. In fact for some people, it’s a source of stress.

I work a 10 hour shift every Friday evening. Do I count as a SAHM or not?

Anyway, I have a housekeeper twice a week, five hours a day. She does all of the cleaning and laundry.

Yes, I do it. Income varies from 300k-750k
