Why is Wotton HS district favorited by many asian family?

I am curious about it. I am asian, but I don't live in Wotton HS school district. Does the HS have better programs than most others? Or top college admission rate?

Does mcps has a survey /database which college kids go to after graduation?

Wotton is about 35% Asians

Wootton does well for college admits, not doubt.

List from 2020. Not sure why 2021 didn't have Wootton.

As far as being the cluster of choice for Asian American families, many of them are immigrants, and immigrants tend to seek out other immigrants. Secondly, it becomes a bit of circular reasoning: the school must be good (high stats) because there are so many Asians, so Asians go there which keeps the stats high.

-Asian American not in Wootton cluster.

It does not have better programs, and the HS is crumbling, slated for CIP in a few years. Sorely needed, from what I hear.

A lot of Asian families make pretty good money and can afford houses in the areas that feed into Wotton (more so than areas that feed into Churchill). Good school, competitive school and good college results. What's there to not like?

Ha! There is no secret sauce.

At least for some Asian families, it's no secret. They go to Wootton to avoid discrimination found in other parts of the county.

Is this obvious for asian discrimination in "some" mcps school? By which area? Lower their GPA or limited numbers of resources for Asian kids something like that? I thought it is more likely to happen till college admission selection....

I think PP was talking about racism by teachers and other families and schoolmates. There is definitely stereotyping and discrimination by many teachers DD has encountered in MCPS. The families sometimes too. They can be very cliquey if you are not white.

This. I am a Wootton grad from the 1980s and even back then Wootton had a sizable Asian population.

Where is this? There is no racism by teachers and families. Maybe NY classmates or maybe some families that have been friends for years

Really? My child has seen the ugly side of MCPS, and MCPS just covers it up.
