Apart from that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play? |
If the drop suggests cheating, it also suggest the cheating *stopped*. I'm satisfied by that. I don't require Cobbs' head for it. |
| ^^^really? To me cheating and lying by the people educating my children is unforgivable and they should be gone. Not rewarded. |
| Something I don't understand about why so many people criticize those parents IB for Ludlow for not sending their kids there, and trying to make it into a Brent or Maury: I wasn't there at the time, but from everything I have heard about the Brent/Maury "transformations," is that it took a group of dedicated IB parents working with great leaders at the school. It's not just a matter of all the neighborhood kids enrolling all of a sudden. If Ludlow doesn't have a good leader, why would parents want to beat their heads against the wall trying to change things with the administration working against them? Transforming a school is a huge (and admirable) effort, and I personally would want to make such an investment only if I thought there was a chance of being successful. |
There is by no means consensus that Principal Cobbs is not a good leader. On the contrary, she excels at certain aspects of school management. (She makes excellent hires, for example.) There are folks who can't get past the cheating allegations, there are folks who can't get past her lack of enthusiasm for a G&T program, there are folks who can't get past her apparent reluctance to privilege IB parents over OOB parents, and there's at least one person who says Cobbs flat-out said she wants "more of her own" at the school (which they say refers to black children). There's also some difference of opinion as to what degree LT needs to be "transformed." |
|
I just have to stop and laugh. After knowing Principal Cobbs for some time now I simply cannot imagine her ever saying anything under the lines of wanting "more of her own." That's absurd.
Whoever supposedly heard her say this would you be so kind as to share the context in which you think you heard her say that? |
| I'm not an LT parent but I've met Principal Cobbs and to suggest that she's ever said "I want more of my own," much less that she even thinks that, is ridiculous and defamatory. |
| And you draw that conclusion from just having met her because . . . Why? She wasn't wearing a t-shirt imprinted with "MOMO"? |
| What?^ |
| guilty until proven otherwise |
| I've met Principal Cobbs several times and she ranged from unfriendly to hostile. I've witnessed a lot of situations where the kids were late getting to class, as a whole group, with their teacher. There are several excellent teachers, but I honestly don't think a school can be good if the Principal is actually openly hostile to people. |
| How are the preschool teachers? We are considering LT. |
|
My daughter's teachers in ps3 and pk4 were great -- her ps3 teacher, in particular, was phenomenal. (She was in a Bright Horizons program before she started at LT, and right before we made the switch, I was worried that I was sacrificing her education in my eagerness to stop paying daycare fees. After she switched, I changed my tune -- the Reggio program at LT was a MUCH better fit for my daughter than the BH curriculum.)
I am, admittedly, a fan of LT -- but even parents I know who aren't as satisfied w/the school generally seem happy with the ps & PK teachers. (So far this year I've also been very pleased with my daughter's K teacher.) |
At least one person who says this? Christ, what nonsense get spewed on this board. She announced that she wants more of "her own" at a school open house, a year ago in front of at least four dozen prospective parents, making it perfectly clear that she was referring to AA kids. Many of us hung around after the open house to compare reactions - we were uniformly annoyed, it not disgusted. Somebody should have recorded her and gone to the press and her higher ups. If Cobbs were good for the neighborhood, the neighborhood would be there after PreK, vs. a small number of IB (truly IB, not address cheating) families. |
| Why would someone make up the Cobbs comments? You can believe all the conspiracy theories about "gentrifiers" you want, but we don't hold meetings to create myths about perfectly respectable people like our local principal. This is why some of us were shocked by her attitude and comments -- we were there to support the school in the first place, not to attack anyone. |
