Something I don't understand about why so many people criticize those parents IB for Ludlow for not sending their kids there, and trying to make it into a Brent or Maury: I wasn't there at the time, but from everything I have heard about the Brent/Maury "transformations," is that it took a group of dedicated IB parents working with great leaders at the school. It's not just a matter of all the neighborhood kids enrolling all of a sudden. If Ludlow doesn't have a good leader, why would parents want to beat their heads against the wall trying to change things with the administration working against them? Transforming a school is a huge (and admirable) effort, and I personally would want to make such an investment only if I thought there was a chance of being successful.
There is by no means consensus that Principal Cobbs is not a good leader. On the contrary, she excels at certain aspects of school management. (She makes excellent hires, for example.) There are folks who can't get past the cheating allegations, there are folks who can't get past her lack of enthusiasm for a G&T program, there are folks who can't get past her apparent reluctance to privilege IB parents over OOB parents, and there's at least one person who says Cobbs flat-out said she wants "more of her own" at the school (which they say refers to black children). There's also some difference of opinion as to what degree LT needs to be "transformed."
