What kinds of things would you like to know?

Does the principal embrace the changing neighborhood? I'm seeing some worrisome comments on the issue here.

Does the school reflect the neighborhood?

Are there still cars with Md. tags dropping off kids? If so, does anyone care?

Is the police called to the school for safety issues, such as parents' aggression towards teachers because a teacher suspended their kid for bad behavior? Do the students fight with each other?

I'm a new "commenter" and parent of a prospective student.

Honestly, I think you're better served by going to some of the parent functions and reaching out on MOTH. It is not possible to have reasoned discussion of L-T here on DCUM.

My daughter was in the PS3 program this year and she/we loved it and the teachers. Almost all the kids in the 3 PS3 classes were IB from the surrounding neighborhood. Nice kids, nice parents -- some of whom I now consider friends. Everyone I've spoken to plans to re-enroll their child in LT again from Pre-K 4. Everyone seems to really like the teachers and I haven't heard anything bad about any of them, going on up through the 3rd grade (the oldest kids of parents I know).

There are some Maryland tags dropping off/picking up students, but it's by no means a majority and it's usually to pick up kids 6 or older. Area demand for school slots in the CH neighborhood will follow that an ever growing percentage if IB students will comprise 1st-5th grade going forward. The school is well run and is orderly every day when I pick up and drop off.

I've never heard of police being called in to deal with a parent going nuts on a teacher, though it may have happened in the past. Students do not fight with each other -- I've never witnessed this and I'm there almost every day at drop off and pick up.

Finally, the principal (Cobbs) is fine. She hires excellent teachers and has a very busy job. In the past, she may have rubbed some local IB SES parents the wrong way when she didn't drop everything to come out and say "hi". She doesn't have time to kiss asses. She's not always the most effective communicator, but she knows how to run a school and LTs test scores back that up (2nd highest on the Hill).

In summation, your kid would be more than fine going to LT. It's a good environment and not at all a rough inner city school, if that's what you're envisioning. In fact, you should stop by during school hours or at drop off, pick up to judge for yourself.

PP - Thanks for the comment! I went to the flea market a couple of weeks ago and liked it. The renovations in the classrooms are great. I'm trying to come in to visit during the school day, but not successful in getting a response for appointment so far.

Try calling rather than e-mailing about the appointment.

Principal Cobbs has resigned; she will not be returning this year. The principal selection process will be interesting.

Sorry, typo: Will not be returning NEXT year. So far as I know she will be finishing up this school year.
