Virginia referendum - if you hate MAGA, vote YES (even if your mailing says to vote 'No')

Who? The Republicans in Texas? The Republicans in NC? The Republicans in OH? The Republicans in MO?

if the maps are drawn to be 90% democrat in virignia where is is only 51%, the proof is in the actual voting tally, they should have done this in a real blue state, this could end up in a civil war

The governor won by a 15-point landslide, the lieutenant governor and the attorney general won by more than five points each, and Democrats picked up 13 seats in the legislature.

It’s going to go through the courts first. It’s such an obvious theft of voters rights.

If the courts don’t call out this bs I fear you are correct. There will be another civil war.

I recognize that a lot of you are new to this, but the Supreme Court is fine with partisan gerrymandering.

It’s trumps doing. He started this in Texas

Oh well. Too bad, so sad.

Texas was barely 65% and it was legal based on population growth this is totally illegal

No, illegal was the Republicans’ gerrymandered Virginia map that hat to be tossed because it violated the Voting Rights Act.

Louise remembers

She's on fire.

Yes she's amazing great job she's doing for her area

Portsmouth, Virginia tops the list of the most dangerous cities in Virginia, with 58.15 per 1000 people.
In 2024, the city recorded an alarming 8.84 violent crimes per 1000 residents, alongside a property crime rate of 49.30 per 1000.
These statistics position Portsmouth as one of the most challenging cities in terms of public safety within the state.
Annual Crimes in Portsmouth:
Population: 97,029
Violent Crimes: 858
Property Crimes: 4,784
Total Crimes: 5,642
Chances of Becoming a Victim: 1 in 113.
The root causes of Portsmouth’s crime issues are multifaceted, primarily driven by a high poverty rate and substantial economic challenges. Its poverty rate is higher than the national average.
The city has struggled with unemployment rates that exceed the national average, limited job opportunities in key sectors, and a workforce that often lacks access to the education and training necessary for upward mobility.
These economic hardships create a breeding ground for both property and violent crimes as residents face desperation and limited options.
Portsmouth’s crime rates are further exacerbated by issues such as housing instability and a lack of investment in public infrastructure.
Neighborhoods facing the highest crime rates often show signs of neglect, with public areas in disrepair and homes in dilapidation.
While Portsmouth cannot be rated as the most dangerous city in USA, its crime rates certainly rank it quite high.

Louise Lucas is doing what she can to deal with a bad situation that she did not create. Old, white conservatives did that. They went to great lengths to defund public schools and oppress black people over many decades. Don't blame the people in that area because they don't have a lot of opportunities available to them today.

Louise Lucas is on fire.

As Chair of the Senate Education & Health Committee, she has been a leading voice on reproductive rights and education.

Following the 2022 Chesapeake Walmart shooting in her district, she has actively fought for stricter gun laws and extreme risk protection orders.

She worked to fight discrimination on city-owned land and has secured funding for local projects, including revenue compensation for the City of Portsmouth.

Throughout her career, she has focused on social, civic, and political advocacy, including her role as a life member of the NAACP.

She has pushed for economic development initiatives, including casino gaming regulation and opposing certain stadium subsidies.

Senator Lucas has consistently advocated for marginalized communities, navigating a long career in the General Assembly to advance Democratic policies.

Plus, she's not afraid to stand up to Republican a-holes.

It did go through the courts - SCOTUS already said gerrymandering is OK.

Where did we see this dramatized? Oh yeah, Game of Thrones and the Whitewalkers.

Dems did not "create" MAGAs.

We can thank disinformation and low IQs for that.

You think MAGAs are going to melt down when Ds do exactly what Rs have been doing?

They are fked in the head so you may be right.

Exactly.

Where is that national ban on gerrymandering? Oh right - it mostly benefits the Rs so they are never going to do that.

Anonymous wrote:And this is why the democrats keep losing the sane vote. For all the people who hate trump so much why were you quite when Biden was president? He wasn’t even making decisions and you didn’t hear republicans having tantrums in the streets. I may not like trump and his policies but at least I know he’s making the decisions and not some cabinet that I didn’t vote for like during Biden. So for this vote, no, I don’t like trump either but I am voting no. It’s wrong, most democrats agree to that. This is not a national election, it’s a state election so it shouldn’t matter what Texas or California are doing. For state elections the purpose is to do what’s best for the STATE. This is gone too far. If it keeps going like this, we will have all lost ourselves.

Again…for all the people in the cheap seats…the democrats ran the tables in the state of VA. Dominated at every level.

Sorry, but no “sane” person voted Republican.

Literally, the VA Republican Party was slapped in the face with a pile of bricks. Again, this thread is about the state of VA.

Oh btw, a democrat just won the FL legislature seat in Trump’s back yard of Palm Beach, where a Republican last won by 19 points.

On a national basis, democrats have now won 99% of all special elections.

You morons need to stop using the term “this is why democrats are losing….”

How about a little perspective? Yes the Democrats swept in the last election. That was a giant F-You to Trump, no doubt. Spanberger running as a "pragmatic centrist" and Earle-Sears being a terrible candidate certainly helped, but admittedly, we also elected a maniac AG because his opponent was aligned with Trump.

But this is about our congressional districts and only a year prior, just under 48% of Virginians voted for Republicans. As a result our seats are 6 D, 5 R. Sorry, but 2025's results are not a mandate to completely blow up that up and make it 10 D, 1 R. It's just not.

More importantly, if you're so confident in this major shift of everyone voting Democrat? Then there's no need to even worry about congressional redistricting in VA. By your own logic, the Dems already got this.

I am not opining on this particular Amendment vote...but rather, all the morons who preface a post with "this is why the Democrats keep losing/lost...."

The reality, is the Democrats didn't lose in the most recent elections. They completely dominated...historically dominated. So, at the very least, all you dipshits...stop prefacing your post with a reference to the Democrats losing.

Also, by my own logic...if I wanted to further cement my status, then of course I would push for redistricting. Same reason the TX republicans pushed for redistricting. Same reason why the UK or France or Italy call snap elections...because they take advantage of the moment.

Wow. Further cementing your status? Take advantage of the moment? If nothing else, I appreciate your honesty. At least you admit that this amendment has nothing do do with "saving our democracy", "fair elections" or "doing the right thing" and that it's all about grabbing more power. I just wish those pushing it in ads would do the same.

Using Virginia’s population of about 8.88 million, that equals roughly 3.46 million people worth of representation lost their right to vote.

For historical context, in 1860 Virginia, about 490,000 people were enslaved, which was roughly 31% of the population. so this is even bigger than that.

Lawsuits being filed.

Yes - 45%

Early in person votes:

Yes - 52%
No - 48%

Early by Mail Votes:

Yes - 73%
No - 27%

What are the odds? Not that great.....

The odds of what? I don't even understand what you are implying. In any case, this breakdown is predictable and exactly the dynamic anyone who who has looked at elections before would expect.

The ratio of early by mail votes should reflect early in person and in person

What? There are very different cohorts of people who vote by mail vs. voting in person BECAUSE YOUR PRESIDENT HATES VOTING BY MAIL.
