I’m proud of everyone who voted. |
Actually, they are. 1) Trump called the governor of Texas and demanded more congressional seats 2) Abbot then forced the change with his party. 3) no texans were polled, able to vote or anything, it was an edict 4) Virginia passed legislation 5) Virginia put it to a vote 6) the people of virginia voted These are VERY different. Fact: if Texas doesn't do this, neither does Virginia. |
+1 A Pyrrhic victory if ever there was one. |
I’m a native Marylander with the associated usual opinions about Virginia, but Virginia is better because they put it up to a statewide vote instead of shoving it through the state legislature. I am annoyed that I have to keep congratulating them for staying in the left lane, however. |
Sore loser. |
Great. I look forward to the next resolution where 51% of the residents can vote to have the other 49% boiled in oil. We have representative democracy for a reason. |
Current federal laws prevent one group from killing another group. Tell your current Republican representatives, while you have them, to support a federal law against partisan gerrymandering and this solves the problem. |
Unlike Texas, VA maps approved by voters Unlike Texas, VA maps temporary Unlike Texas, VA maps only drawn in response to other states Unlike Texas, VA maps not racial gerrymander |
last time i checked, maiming and killing is illegal |
Republicans have a trifecta at the federal level. They could ban gerrymandering tomorrow if they wanted to. They don't want to ban gerrymandering! They even voted down Democratic proposals to ban partisan gerrymandering nationwide. I wonder why. |
Well now Republicans have had a taste of the injustice, they might be inclined to do something about it. They only understand bad when it happens to them personally. Your Victim Card has been declined. |
There are already state court cases filed to fight the constitutionality of this |
Last time I checked, metaphors are completely lost on you. |
| I don't live in Virginia so I don't have a stake in the matter, but I've a feeling what is happening is something akin to a point of no return. Both for Virginia and nationally. There's a psychological effect here and it can be unpredictable how it will play out. |
