That’s the thing about the study of a novel virus that rapidly mutates. The knowledge and therefore guidance can change frequently so I guess that people unfamiliar with epidemiology might struggle a little. That’s why we have these people called epidemiologists!!! Can you say it with me?? |
+1 Exactly. Scientists of many expertise have done AMAZING work with this--they have figured out transmission, they have figured out a vaccine, they have figured out treatments, they have worked their a**es off and all we have to do is respect their expertise, understand that the scientific advice is going to shift as knowledge develops and the virus mutates. What the scientists have achieved gives me hope for humanity--the percent of people who are utterly ignorant of the scientific process and dismissive of that amazing expertise/tireless work make me depressed about humanity. |
+100 People that dismiss their guidance and proclaim them incapable should be put in a lab and asked to do it better. I’d pay money to see that play out. |
Still going at it, huh? |
What morons are wasting Inova's time for covid tests for mild cases of Omicron? God. |
People want to know if what they have is covid in case they have long covid symptoms later and to get an idea of how well they can resist to the illness. Since self-tests can't be found, they need to go to the doctor's. |
You clearly don’t work in a school. |
Serious question: are there studies that show masking kids in schools work? Like, is spread or hospitalization lower in communities that have a mask mandate? I guess it’s hard to compare apples to apples because vaccination rates vary by state a lot.
Anyway - seems like an important thing to know. |
Doesn’t matter. People are obsessed with masking. Originally the idea had merit before vaccines and availability of quality masks that protect the wearer. People were encouraged to protect each other. Small price to pay during uncertain times. Now we have vaccines and N95s and better understanding. People can protect themselves now. Add in omicrons mild nature and we should open things up entirely including our faces. But people are still stuck in November 2020. If they followed the science to 2022, they’d see we are ready to move forward without mandates. Are these people really going to drop masks next school year when the inevitable spike happens and the measure has expired? |
Lol |
I wasn’t dumb enough to believe the “experts” when they said not to buy masks. Fauci’s condescension when he spoke of masks maybe blocking a droplet didn’t fool me at all.
They were so clearly lying and I was surprised and disappointed at so many Americans nodding like little puppets. I hadn’t bought any because I knew that the youth and health of my household meant our risk was minimal, and gave what ppe I had lying around from home improvement to an older relative who worked in a hospital. As to vaccine efficacy of course they were likely to be WRONG, they rushed them out. Expert or no expert you can’t magic the study of longterm efficacy. You need time and you can’t pull the passage of time out of your azz no matter how many degrees you have. We were told just listen and follow their advice/mandates, they are experts! Listen, even if they admitted to lying in our faces! And the same experts who were of course right about vaccine efficacy over time are of course right that time will reveal no harmful side effects….right? |
“We wrote the order specifically to give all the school systems, basically, eight days to get ready — to listen to parents,” Youngkin said. “Over the course of this week, I hope they will listen to parents because we will use every resource within the governor’s authority to explore what we can and will do to ensure parents’ rights are protected.”
Bless you sir! Can't wait to give our kids their childhood back. |
Nope, they will continue screaming for masking to continue. They said themselves that masks are just "a piece of paper" (and many students are wearing even less helpful "pieces of cloth"). So even though it is vaccines that are helping us deal with Covid, they continue to cling to their masks. |
They are doing about as well as a tv psychic. |
Fwiw - I think other politicians are going to get involved - so I shared my feelings with Connolly and my state rep and state senator today. My thoughts are that the school districts should be able to mandate masking during this Omicron surge but that they also need to start making reasonable plans for a masking offramp that they need to publicize and this can be in conjunction with health experts. But they should plan for & announce what a reasonable offramp would be. |
