Another violent incident at a MCPS school

Northwood HS in Silver Spring:

This is becoming a daily occurrence throughout MCPS. What will BOE/MCPS do to address this?

They took the kid's shoes in a bathroom without a weapon. Should be disciplined, but I think this is only making news because of the Magruder incident. I'm sure these types of things happen every day.

The kid got mugged at school! Have a little sympathy.

As someone who has been mugged before, it can be incredible scary and traumatic.

He should feel safe at school, but he obviously won't for as long as those kids are around.

This is certainly newsworthy and tbh, given the trajectory/news lately, MCPS should make an example of these kids.

These things are newsworthy. I’m glad this is coming out because of Magruder.

Imagine if this happened to you, at work, by your co-workers, who continued to work there.

This link is working

Students, staff and visitors were safe and we appreciate the support of our police partners and staff that assisted during this matter. Students involved may be subject to disciplinary action as identified in the MCPS Student Code of Conduct," Northwood's letter explained.

ie, RJ means they will be let back in to torment this kid and maybe others. If I were that kid's parent, I would demand those kids be removed from the school, permanently. And if they don't, and my kid suffers PTSD, I would sue them to cover the therapy bills, and I would also let every parent in that school know who those kids were.

I'm tired of MCPS not taking these incidents seriously.

Why are the majority of kids who follow the rules and want to learn subjected to this kind of environment everyday? It's BS.

And sit and listen to why it wasn't really your coworkers fault that they mugged you. And that you should have sympathy for their situation

Sadly this isn't uncommon. Ask your kids to show you TikTok and Snapchat videos of fights happening at their schools.

Threats of lawsuits does not scare MCPS. They've paid out millions already for various infractions, like not responding to reports of sexual abuse; not providing services for specials needs,e tc.

What do they care? It's just taxpayer money. Besides, they have no independent auditor (despited a $2.5bln budget) to call them out on these things.

All you have is the BOE.. and we know how that goes.

News article said "There is a growing call for the SRO program to be reinstated. However, politicians including Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich (D) continue to maintain schools are safest without SROs in them."
Stupid moron living in a bubble. Can we get rid of this guy? He is old and doesn't even have kids in MCPS. Most of the County Council don't either.

This is what kills me. It’s absolutely ridiculous. They’ll say the same thing about Alston. Poor guy. Doomed from the start.

What?! Are you kidding? Would you say that if your husband had his shoes stolen in the bathroom at the public library?

This is not acceptable. Our kids should feel safe at school.

This. My kid pretty much avoids going to the bathroom all day at school.
