How will schools with mask mandates handle maskless kids starting next week (1/24)?

Will schools send the maskless kids home? Will school staff be at school doors to ensure compliance? I'm just wondering how this is all going to go down come Monday. What do you think schools should do?

I hope schools send the kids home. I don't know how many parents will actually follow through and use their kids as pawns, but there are calls for Maskless Monday : https://maskoffmonday.com/take-action-now-1/f/contact-your-school-today?fbclid=IwAR0AktQT7kn88vq2qkXfpeATKE_UJ8tKjTdpA1YuL6BVHOYyBFUNQHxCMa8

I stopped reading that website at the following "Given that communist, fearful, uninformed, or nasty school administrators..."

I assume whatever they would do anytime a student refuses to comply with any other school rule, such as vaping, skipping class, etc.

Like the woman at the APS school board meeting last night (1/20) who said that continued masking is basically akin to domestic terrorism and APS leaders could be subject to up to 99 years in prison. But she's not anti-mask, just pro-choice. Ummm, ok...

Well, legally, it seems like the governor has a right to ban mask mandates (even if I disagree), if the previous one had a legal right to mandate them. So I don’t know that schools have the legal authority to enforce the mandates anymore. It may play out in the courts. In the meantime, I could see schools disciplining massless kids, but I’m not sure they’ll go as extreme as sending them home. I guess we’ll see.

But it's a little different, isn't it? Maybe they'd get a warning or a lunch/after school detention for skipping a class or getting caught vaping, but they likely would be allowed to stay on school premises. In this case, a maskless student poses a health risk to others. I hope schools first give them a mask to wear. If the child continues to refuse, I hope they send those kids home, but I don't know where they house those kids while waiting for the parents to pick them up.

Northam's mask mandate was legal, in part because it came during a time of a public health emergency so governmental powers are somewhat expanded. Youngkin made sure to proclaim that we are no longer in that public health emergency, so he is not afforded those expanded powers. The EO is outside his legal authority on a number of grounds. Even Republicans admit so.

Well, its in direct conflict with Chapter 456 (some call it SB1303, which became Chapter 456.) Even if its not what the author's of the bill intended, it IS in fact a law right now and laws voted on by both houses of government and signed by the governor take priority over EO's. This was always true, even under previous governors. Even republican attorney's have admitted that. So, it will most definitely go to court and in the meantime the mask mandate will be in effect until a court says otherwise. Despite what all the anti-mask tantrum-throwers are saying.

Sister is a teacher at a FCPS and said that they were notified that kids who arrived maskless would be asked to put on a mask and provided with one. If they refuse, their parent would be called for pickup.

You know this is going to be a sh!tshow at some schools with some parents. I feel for the people manning the doors!

Teachers are supposed to send any who refuse to keep a mask on to the principal's office just as they are supposed to do now.

Sounds like a great way to get arrested and charged with a felony.

This seems like a great approach. It’s ironic that parents who were screaming to get kids back to school would take actions that would prevent their own child from being in school, and cause administrative disruptions that will prevent other children from learning.

My kid is in high school and I don't want them to do anything. They have been out of school for long enough and wasted enough class time this year and sparring back and forth with a couple of students who decide not to wear a mask just isn't worth it to me anymore.

How is it in direct conflict? I'm confused.
