How will schools with mask mandates handle maskless kids starting next week (1/24)?

THIS. Shameful.

I just don't see that happening though, at least not with the younger kids. There's no way they have the stamina/bravery to stand up to a teacher or principal on this, regardless of what their parents may want or coach them to do. Maybe in high school? But that's really assuming they aren't already embarrassed to stand out in general. I just don't see kids making a stand on this. I predict it'll be teachers making the stand against masks. They would be the ones in a position to actually fight it.

I definitely know young kids with enough stamina/bravery to be defiant. -Teacher

Yep, like the one who told friends at school they can't hang out with Larla anymore because Larla's parents are bullies who force kids to wear masks. True story.

Eh, everyone probably already knows that kid is an asshole

This seems like it will play out in courts. I’m sure some lawyer is waiting for a kid to get sent home over a mask which will then give them an injured party to pursue a suit over the school policy and try to get an injunction enforced.

It would probably be best for the VA Supreme Court to provide a decision on the Chesapeake lawsuit so there’s clarity one way or the other and not have conflicts happening at the school.

At my ES, a staff member will hand any maskless kid a mask at the door, like they've been doing every day since August.

Same. My kids will continue to wear a mask. Other kids mask status is their parents' business. I really don't care.

Except the point of wearing a mask is to not let droplets out, not to not let droplets in. So yay, your kid won't get anyone else sick, but those maskless kids might. It's been two years, and people still don't get this.

Until the covid numbers recede, if I were a teacher, I would send a massless kid home the minute they sniffled, sneezed or cough.

That's no longer what researchers say about this. You can get most of the benefit of masking via a good, well-fitted mask even if no one else is masking. https://amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/621177/

Hope you do so you can get subpoenad and lose all your belongings. Ho.

Another teacher here. A kid without a mask in my classroom will be sent to the office.

Furthermore, "subpoenad" (sic) doesn't mean what you think it means, and it CERTAINLY does not mean that I or anyone else with "lose all your belongings. Ho." LOL.

And if you read more (because you know, RIF) this article and any reputable article on the matter says that the most safe environment is where all people are masked.

I have a high-schooler, and I'm much more concerned that the kids will just take the masks off. My child will wear a mask to school, but he is a follower and if everyone else takes theirs off, so will he. DC also has an IEP, and his entire team knows that virtual learning is impossible for him. I don't envy these administrators.

The most safe environment is for everyone to isolate permanently and do everything over the computer. If schools were really about safety they would never have reopened.
