I’m doing well with my diet with the exception of getting rid of the need to have something sweet or carby after dinner (my go to was usually a bowl of Cheerios or granola). I get bad heartburn if I try to go to bed without eating something. But need something better. Fruit doesn’t do it for me.
Any ideas (oh and I am allergic to chocolate so advice like “one square of dark chocolate” won’t work for me) |
| Mini Rice Krispie treats? They are 45 calories each. |
| Rice cakes? |
| Do you like yogurt? I mix plain yogurt with nut butter. Sometimes I berries or hemp hearts. |
|
Fruit with hazelnut spread?
Is there a reason you can't just have a cookie? We have some butter cookies from Trader Joe's right now and one or two are plenty and really not a big deal, calorie wise. If you are really calorie conscious but don't care too much about sugar, a lot of candy is low-cal -- gummy bears or Hot Tamales or something. My husband hates that stuff but I like it. |
| Ricotta, a little splenda, and some cinnamon (I would have said cocoa powder if you would do chocolate) |
| I have the same problem. I've basically conditioned myself to crave that sweet after my meal. A couple things that helped me: (1) doing the dishes or some other distracting chore or activity RIGHT after I finish dinner and by the time I'm done the craving has passed or (2) have some low impact sweet like a few rolls of smarties or junior mints (I know you said no chocolate so that's just an example). If I'm willing to go more high calorie then a chobani flip yogurt (those are practically desserts). |
| Eat an orange. Juicy and sweet. |
| Just get a large chocolate bar and break a small piece off every night. Feels very satisfying! You can have treats. Trying to restrict them will just make it worse. |
She can't have chocolate. Read the op. |
Or ricotta with vanilla extract |
Then cookies or whatever. The point isn’t that chocolate is a magic food, the point is just have a treat you like and find satisfying |
| I'm confused ...are you trying to snack after dinner bc you want to quell your heartburn at bedtime? Or are you snacking bc you truly feel a bit hungry/nibbly/a way to unwind? |
This is OP. Heartburn and hunger are correlated for me— but yea, I get hungry ~3 hours after dinner (we eat at 6, I want something at 9). If I try to just go to bed I get heartburn and can’t sleep until I’ve had something. I guess a bowl of Cheerios is not that bad, but considering I don’t eat a ton of carbs during the day, it makes me feel like I’ve derailed my progress…. |
Plain Greek yogurt with sweetener. Or mix with protein powder. |
