Kettle Run HS in Fauqier County

Does anyone have any feedback on this school? We are tired of NOVA and looking to get out. How are the kids and academics? How is living in the area, house stock and so on.
thank you

We live in Brookside, lake community in Warrenton. We are in kettle run zone. Parents and kids really like it. We have a nice safe community here. You can get a pretty nice house for 650 or more. Holidays are nice, feels like Mayberry.

Any experience w elementary or middle? Also looking to escape.

LOL, definitely, we are the OP and trying to escape, what are your reasons?

BTW has Fauqier County esp Kettle Run High feeder real estate gone up more this and last year than NOVA? based on some superficial cruising on Redfin it seems so.

Thank You, we will check it out. Are most of the people there originally from Fauqier County or transplants?

Please don’t up and move to Fauquier and then vote blue without a clue. The reason it is such a well-managed county with strong schools is that the BoS and SB are seasoned professionals, not a bunch of partisan hacks seeking higher office.

No need to worry about that-believe me.
I did see that the Scott District had a school board open seat. Anyone know which way it goes?

SB members will vote on 3 Jan. Appointee will serve until Nov of 2022 when a special election will be held for the seat. All SB seats are up in 2023.

If your kids aren’t academic superstars then Kettle Run HS is fine. Not the best and brightest but your kids will get a perfectly fine education. You know what you are getting in Fauquier County and sounds that’s what you are looking for.

Brookside pp here. Most people are from 8nner suburbs and moved out for more space, more land/house for your $$. 7s, for example, moved out here from Del Ray.

Families are really happy with the elementary school and middle school. There are teachers from other districts (fairfax and Loudon) that are sending their kids to the local school instead of the exception rule.

We actually send our kids to St. John's in downtown Warrenton. It's a great school. Small. Principal knows every student by name, etc.

In this neighborhood people are EXTREMELY friendly, it's like Mayberry for real. Kids outside all the time. People with dogs. Bike paths. Fishing. It's amazing.

Need a place where schools are committed to being open and where perhaps politics are more purple as to have a more logical approach to Covid.

What is the exception rule? Is st John's private though? Looking for a good public school system if possible!

I think there are two posters here thinking of possibly moving to FCounty.

I am the OP. Well actually your question is interesting . We are in a school district that boasts the best and brightest by virtue of most of the parents living in 1.5+ homes-so think kids of lawyers and lawyers and small business contractors for the fed-POLICY and then some DMV BIG LAW lawyers LOL. Obviously parents put a lot of energy into kids education and school is one of the top 5 in NOVA-maybe Top ie number 1 as per some ,however with that being said I dont see many genius kids around. Would my kids go to TJ pre VADOE changes? NO, but are my kids in top 10th percentile based on grades/test scores in this school--yes, so no genius superstars but very solid students.
I did look at course offerings and with the exception of not being able to access foreign language until grade 8 (our school starts at grade 7) and having HS World history in 9th grade(ours is in 8th grade) i dont see much difference, well FCounty doesnt offer IB so only AP-but otherwise looks the same. I guess the question is how rigorous these honors courses are and is there a peer group that would competitively push them to think as academics as an "in" thing.
I am really looking for down to earth kids that care about schools and that there is a peer group of real friends, kids hanging out but not doing drugs.

As the PP said thinking of moving beyond just saving money on taxes and house, but also looking for political diversity and where people are not offended that you don't vote like them. I am also looking at an area where the kids wont mask for ever and get boosters every 5 months for eternity and be shunned if their parents believe that Fauci isnt the only COVID scientist in the world.

You aren’t going to find Political Diversity there. It’s pretty much all Republican, which sounds like what you want and would be a great fit for you. People there are offended if you don’t vote like them but won’t be a issue because you’ll fit in just fine. Enjoy your new life!
