Good point, let's reverse Trump's tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy so we can fulfill our promise to retiring seniors who paid into the system for decades so that they could receive healthcare in their old age. |
You clearly haven't been through a situation like an aging parent with Alzheimer's who needs to be institutionalized or requires basically 24/7 care. If you had, you would understand how emotionally debilitating it is and worse, how costly it is. |
It amuses me when people speak in absolutes when they have no clue what they are talking about. I "clearly" have two sets of parents in this very situation right now, just FYI. And to the other poster, if people paid into the system for this, then there would be money for this, right? But there isn't. |
Moreover, single adult daughters often quit their jobs to take care of their aging parent(s). If the parent eventually needs to move to a nursing home (e.g., no longer ambulatory), the daughter often ends up with no job, no accrued retirement funds, and no residence if the parent’s home was sold to pay for nursing home costs/qualify for Medicaid. It can be devastating, absolutely devastating, both emotionally and financially. It’s not like employers are looking to hire women in their 60s at a sustainable wage who’ve been out of the work force for 5-10 years. |
Yes, this means that for a change, the top 0.1% is not going to continue to get tax cuts that allow them to make billions of dollars at the expense of the middle and lower classes. Republican tax cuts have allowed the wealth gap to increase. The difference in wealth between the C-suiters and the average worker keeps climbing. And yet the wealthy and corporations are getting the bulk of the tax cuts. Through to the early 1960's the top marginal tax bracket was around 91%. Now the top marginal tax bracket is 40%. The top marginal tax bracket needs to go up again so that wealth at the highest level is taxed higher. The wealthiest Americans should be paying significantly more than they do. And that is how much of the social safety net for the middle and lower classes and seniors gets funded. Additionally, corporations should not be getting massive tax cuts so they can pay out record bonuses to C-suite execs and record dividends to shareholders. Right now, corporations and the wealthy have been gifted more and more wealth while decreasing the amount that they contribute to the infrastructure of the nation where they make their profits. |
The DNC momentum was a mirage. It's looking like 2016 again. |
Harris is STILL doing quite well. Trump is close to imploding. |
ArrestedByKamala.com - Cheree Peoples and daughter Shayla tell the story of how Kamala Harris's policy as California Attorney General to arrest parents for “truancy” destroyed their lives and the lives of many other single minority women as well. Shayla suffered from a debilitating chronic illness, Sickle Cell Anemia. The disease landed her repeatedly in the hospital to receive blood transfusions and emergency medical care to manage her pain. All of Shayla's absences were, in fact, excused by her school and buttressed with ample documentation from Children's Hospital. None of this mattered to Kamala Harris, who wanted more kids in school to get more money from the state and federal governments, who provided funding according to attendance rates. Kamala had Cheree arrested, handcuffed and perp walked in her pajamas in front of her neighbors and the media who had been tipped off. Outraged by the injustice, Cheree fought the charges in court for the next two years, costing her job and her home. “I am not a political person,” says Cheree. “But I want people to know what Kamala Harris did to me. If she does it to me, she will abuse anyone if you give her the power. My message to all Americans, especially black Americans is, do not trust Kamala Harris!”

seems evil. truancy? |
Her “momentum” has died because it was all media manufactured. She couldn’t bait Trump into another debate with biased moderators. She has flopped in her recent interviews. She’s trying everything to change the state of the race, but people aren’t buying into her candidacy because she’s an empty suit who stands for nothing and is constantly flip flopping on her political positions. |
Hahaha, you are delusional. |
Her momentum has stalled. She is dropping in the polls. She had a lead, now is basically tied or losing the swing states. The more people get to know her, the less they like her. |
Because we’re addicted to buffoonery. |
