If the parent eventually needs to move to a nursing home (e.g., no longer ambulatory), the daughter often ends up with no job, no accrued retirement funds, and no residence if the parent’s home was sold to pay for nursing home costs/qualify for Medicaid. It can be devastating, absolutely devastating, both emotionally and financially. It’s not like employers are looking to hire women in their 60s at a sustainable wage who’ve been out of the work force for 5-10 years. [/quote]
