Why can't Laquandra Nesbitt give metrics for mask mandate end? That's her job.

Not a fan of DC health director in general, but this obnoxious response to an industry that is suffering is appalling given that she hasn't provided a metric for when she believes it will be safe to end the mandate.

Obviously it doesn't both the Mayor, who only wears a mask when she feels like it, but what an embarrassment of a public official:

I support unmasking in gyms. I’m a liberal. We need to follow the science and mask up if the levels of vaccinated and community spread requires it. My gym has required all members be vaccinated. I’m ok with unmasking and would prefer it, I’m a mom of two, including one kid who has just become eligible for the vaccine. Democrats are going to continue our losing streak if we continue to pursue this road to nowhere.

+1. Vaccinated people have nothing to fear from each other. If they do, STAY OUT OF THE GYM. Hospitals are nowhere near capacity around here. These gyms offered to mandate vaccines. Bars are open with no masks and no vax mandates. This is one of the things pushing me to the right politically.

What can we voters/taxpayers do to push the city on this?

Especially against a bureaucrat who claims common sense approaches are evidence of her being bullied?

This is exactly why we need metrics. If Nesbitt, or anyone else, really thinks we should be masking forever, at least indefinitely, then they should be willing to say so and defend their position.

But since it is wildly out of mainstream, no one is going to fess up to it.

Our officials have been very clear about vaccines not being very protective.

Masks are necessary and I wish people would stop whining and adjust to the new normal. The experts will tell us when we can unmask. I’m just hoping we will be allowed to go to church and see family at Christmas this year, so many grandparents are old. I know that our leaders follow the science and won’t keep our elders isolated if it’s not vital to our society.

In the meantime, I am working on a hand painted “Merry Christmas” sign just in case. That way I can stand in my mom’s driveway and she can wave at the kids from her window. It’s a pandemic, but we will get through!

See, the thing is that our leaders have NOT been following the science since the beginning of the pandemic. And if they were, they would be able to provide metrics.

Yeah. If they were following science, the DOH would issue metrics. Nesbit and Bowser seem to love the politics of masking -makes people feel “safe” whatever that means these days.

Frustrating that they keep pushing vaccines, but don’t even collect data on how many students are vaccinated in a school. With no data, you can never make a data-based decision.
