and there’s massive job postings in the last few weeks.
What happens when schools can’t staff enough teachers? Classes get bigger for those who still remain on the profession? |
I work for APS and live in Arlington. When my husband’s job recently moved I started looking into LCPS because we could get so much more house. It seems like a real hotbed of the culture wars right now and not somewhere I’d want to work or send my child. FWIW all NOVA districts are having staffing shortages right now. |
Which leads to more work on existing teachers...and then the blame comes from parents that their child isn't getting a quality education. Also, better not offer them incentives to stay or come on board for that matter (you know higher pay, days off) they already have it so easy. https://www.fauquier.com/news/superintendent-of-schools-who-would-want-to-be-a-teacher-right-now/article_6ee1dc30-1c70-11ec-ae0e-9fd71d412ee7.html |
Yes. Classes get bigger. Or, here’s another example. I have a kid whose LRE is self contained. Absolutely no way given his diagnosis and the fact he’s failed my grade level course once already should he be in Gen Ed. His case manager tried to her him moved to self contained but due to lack of sped staffing there’s only 1 self contained class for that grade level and it’s too big already. So he stays in Gen Ed which is not appropriate at all. That’s gonna happen a LOT. |
+1 You should see how insane some of the parents are on the ACPS thread about the two Thanksgiving days. Those whack job parents are hammering the teachers into the ground. Good luck keeping those teachers, Alexandria parents! With parents like you, who needs enemies, right!?! |
My kids are pulled into the auditorium for classes where they cant find subs.
|
Absolutely. Sadly, I think it's nationwide... |
Same! I have some friends that live out there so we were considering it too. I know most of the drama out there is being stoked by some nonLCPS nutters but no thank you! |
OR eliminate the 100% jab mandate. |
Eliminate the professional development and all of the extras thrown on teachers in the past few years that take away from what we need to do. I work in FCCPS and it’s bad there too. I am looking at the other surrounding districts to see if it’s any better but it sounds like working conditions are just as bad. We keep getting additional days of PD and more to do during planning. I would be willing to take a salary cut if I was left alone to do my job. |
Yes, that’s obviously a major deterrent. There are ways around it though. You won’t need to subjugate your health over fear and employment. |
nobody cares about this..its a non issue. |
I’d be less concerned about vacancies in APS than the overall low quality of APS. |
+1 Based on the percentage of vaccinated teachers I'd say that many were glad of the protection. |
Even if they did have an issue, the out is getting tested weekly. Nobody is quitting their job or not entering teaching because of this. There’s way way bigger issues driving issues with staff retention and hiring. |
