| How many fights did your kid see at Deal this week? |
| 1 |
| I know of at least 3. One of the APs got hit in one of them. |
| wow ward 3 sounds super sketchy. sounds like you need a bigger police presence in that part of town. |
I get the sarcasm, but do you get hit at your job? |
How many versions of the video - or in person? |
| My kid didn’t see any at Deal. The bus ride home is another story. |
| Deal sounds dangerous. |
It is. Please go private. |
I saw the video with the AP who is a fantastic AP. The girls involved were out of control. And I know that the kids who were there watching are only in 8th grade but it is so disappointing to see them react to the incident with excitement, joy, and mania. The school administration needs to immediately address the students who started the fight and the broader student body reaction. With our two kids we are in the last of our six years at Deal it has be generally great. But there is an inexplicable tolerance for really bad behavior by a small number of students that has a big impact on the overall school climate. It's time for that to stop. |
I don’t understand why they don’t suspend kids anymore for egregious fights. They’re back the very next day with no visible consequences. At least make an in school suspension or something… |
Restorative Justice. That’s why |
You can thank David Grosso for that |

some of the situations Deal teachers are subjected to: • students run into their classroom while they are teaching, act out and grab books and school supplies before running out, sometimes multiple times per day • students invade their personal space, touch them, and even assault them • students and/or their parents make false accusations of corporal punishment and the Deal favorite • students accuse teachers of being "racist" if they correct a student. If a teacher reports a student to the admin, they are asked what they did to provoke the student's behavior. |
This is exactly how kids reacted to fights at my wealthy, suburban MS and HS in the 80s. It’s not unique to Deal or this moment. Not to get all philosophical, but it’s really an indictment of American culture and our fascination with violence. I mean, you watched the video—why? Anyway, my kid is in 8th grade and saw the scrum (but not the fight itself). It’s the first one I’ve heard about this year. |
