He was adopted by his mom’s third husband when he was three. So his mom changed his name to his step father’s. But sounds like primary home was super dysfunctional- he was in and out of foster care and lived with grandparents often and was primarily raised by them. It doesn’t sound like his stepfather was involved at all, at least not in a positive way. He likely saw his grandfather as the father figure in his life and changed his name as an adult to reflect that. This is my speculation based on Wikipedia.

I don't know about his kids but am close to 100% sure a converted Catholic is raising his kids Catholic. Someone here earlier posted that they go to a Catholic school.

And then, like Paul Ryan before him, he proceeded to poop all over the programs that enabled him to get out and go up. That’s a turd barge no matter how you split it.
