Agreed. We should drop the mandate now instead of waiting until Monday.

You mean August 1st? Nothing happening Monday except that some anti-mask parents might file a lawsuit.

“Less than 0.2% of Covid-19 deaths in the United States have been among children, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Children account for about one in five (22%) people in the US population overall, but about one in every 645 Covid-19 deaths and one in every six Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.

There have been about 1,100 deaths and about 8.3 million cases among children, according to CDC data.“

I still support masking at school and elsewhere in public until the medical and scientific communities say otherwise, but these are good data that can help inform decision-making going forward.

Ugh. You are missing the point. The issue isn't simply whether a child can get sick and die from covid, its that if your kid gets the virus they carry it back to your home and can spread it to anyone they come in close contact with... and some of those other age/health groups ARE dying.

I was under the impression that Youngkin was going to get rid of the state mask mandate that requires all students, teachers, staff, and visitors age 2 and older to wear a mask indoors in private and public PreK-12 school settings, regardless of vaccination status. This includes private religious schools. But he was going to allow individual school districts and private schools to make their own decisions regarding mask mandates. I can't imagine with our woke school board that they will do anything but keep the mask mandate in place.

Now, in a year, if the pandemic becomes endemic but some districts still have mandates, I could see at that point Youngkin would prevent mask mandates. Individual students or teachers would still be allowed to make their own decisions, but FCPS would no longer be able to mandate masks.

It's already endemic

For something to be endemic it needs an R-naught of 1 or less. Omicron is 7.

Sooooo? Everyone who wants to get vaccinated pretty much already has. If we accept the use of vaccines giving us reasonable protection against covid, when do the restrictions end? The virus is here to stay, millions of people have gotten it twice now/ and or gotten Covid after the vaccine. At this point further losses due to Covid though regrettable have to happen sooner or later. If you wanna keep protecting people from Covid we are going to be masking for another 20+ years to protect triple maxed 75 year olds (median age Covid death) great for you but some of us will accept such losses in the name of higher margainal benefit.

FCPS should just implement a dress code and include masks. Anyone not following dress code is suspended.

Just to add on we sacarficed the equivalent of SEVEN MILLION 20 year old MEN normalized for the population in 1860 to win the Civil War. Now we are so scared of the health of triple vaxxed 75 year olds who are on the doorsteps of death to keep these insane restrictions going on indefinitely? Historically during wartime the young sacarficed their lives for the greater of the nation and in times of famine/war the old have.

I’ve heard of districts in other states doing that.

Insane restrictions? Masking. Vaccinations. Testing. Quarantine. The whole planet is doing this - we're not underground seeking shelter from bombers. It's not fear, it's practical public health. Oh, 2 out of 3 fatalities in the Civil were due to disease - is that what you are asking to do again? The average American's lifespan during the Civil War era is less than 40 years old while now nearly double (79). If you want to sacrifice the young, you will get faster results skipping vaccinations, seatbelts, childproof medicine bottles, all together.

Seriously. Getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, and getting tested if I’m sick are just not that onerous on my family. We are otherwise living normally. It’s fine! Why all the whining?

Only if that dress code include mittens for the DcUM-b parents so you ninnies don’t type and hype anymore. After all…most of us elected he and Sears so that we don’t have to listen to you anymore. The mask mandate study has already been proven inconveniently bunked.

We don't mandate the vaccination, so we should not mandate masks. If you are so terrified of the mask mandate going away, your energy would be better spent being terrified of the unvaccinated.
