Will your DC wear mask to school when Youngkin lifts school mask mandate next week?

It’s the opposite. We can’t wait for our turn. I want to teach without a mask. I am thrilled for the students and my own children. I can be patient since I know it won’t be too long now. Like parents, it was a few loud and vocal teachers who wanted to continue mandating masks for all.

No, actually, it isn't. There are maybe 2 or 3 teachers in my school who want to "unmask" and everyone else is fine and dandy staying masked. We're in NoVa. Our student population is the same way. I think we would suddenly have a lot of kids staying home if masks come off. Our school's parents want masks on.

Or you’re just in an echo chamber/have people telling you what they know you want to hear. I would love to see the results of an anonymous survey of parents/teachers on masking at any of the nova schools districts, but of course the schools won’t do them because they’re scared of the results.

DP. You asked every teacher? I teach in FCCPS. No one had asked me for my opinion. It’s assumed all teachers want to continue masking. We don’t. We comply because it is currently required and we want to keep our jobs.

Why TF would they survey parents to make public health decisions?

Because these are public POLICY decisions, made by weighing many different factors. Listening to an agency that says you should only eat your hamburgers well done, and seems to only have a risk perspective of only the most extreme 10% of society, is one of many voices to lsiten to. Anthony Fauci is completely out of touch.

It's like you people wanted Donald Rumsfeld to be the sole decider on terrorism decisions, and Republicans when you objected would shoosh you saying, "these are terrorism decisions; nothing can be questioned."

Dumba$$ parents in FCPS do not need to be involved in public health decisions -OR- terrorism decisions.

The schools shouldn’t be the ones making public health decision in the first place. But many school supervisors and individual teachers (like pp) insist they are speaking for what the parents want in demanding continued masking- so I’d like to see them back up their claims.

Nothing official from APS, just a simple anonymous survey I setup. Currently close to 1/3 of the 72 respondents have said they would let their child go to school unmasked. That is pretty good for the peoples republic of Arlington.

Who did you distrubute this poll to, just this site? That matters - population.

Interesting that the most "yes" came from Yorktown, WMS and Jamestown.

I don't find that surprising. Wealthier people tend to be less risk averse, in my experience. They have safety nets, back ups, and can solve a lot of problems with money (not all, but a lot).

What is gong to happen to the tiny shread of credibility of Smart Restart and the Arlington Education Association (especially crying union leader) remaining when masks are optional and nothing happens?

These COVIDians have been consistently wrong and have only damaged our school system by scaring students, parents and teachers:
*Remember when they didn't want to open without 14 days of new cases (we still wouldn't be open)?
*Remember when they said open schools would cause tons of people to die (didn't happen)?
*Remember when they said open schools would result in way more cases in the community (didn't happen; spread in school is less than the community)?
*Remember when they complained about school being forced to be open during Delta because of SB1303, saying it was too dangerous?
*Remember when they complained about school being forced to be open during Omicron because of SB1303, saying schools would have to close because too much staff would be out?

Please remember the devastation they claim will occur with mask optional schools. Meanwhile, around 1/2 the kids in the US or more are at mask optional schools, with no issue. There are tons of kids in Northern Europe too for the entire pandemic.

These type of criticisms ignore the reality that circumstances and knowledge changed as the pandemic proceeded. No, the supporters of pandemic mitigation measures are not “consistently wrong.” Focusing on 2022 only, limiting the mask mandate in schools on mid January is much riskier than doing so sometime later this month (assuming the Covid infection rates continue their downward trajectory and we really do move toward the end of the pandemic). It does not make the fight against Youngkin lifting the mask mandate weeks ago wrong.

I agree that we need an off-ramp, but I'll probably make mine wear masks until after spring break. We've got a big trip coming up and I don't want to take the risk. (yeah, I see the irony)

No, you people who have been consistently wrong do not get an out. We looked at the same evidence you did, and saw how wrong you were at that time. You called us every name in the book at the time.

Your credibility has been destroyed.

And masks should have been off last fall, as so many mask optional states in the US and mask optional countries in Europe showed. You still won't admit you were wrong.

Enough, nutter.

Masks helped.
We now have vaccines.
We've had surges.
We are in a much different place than we were 18 months ago.

Sorry you are still obsessing over people who were trying to help our community. Get a life or something.

And you have proven that facts and science do not matter to you and you don’t care about anyone else but your own beliefs. I am glad you were stopped from putting my child at risk up to this point.

You have been wrong on the science continually.

Here's the Smart Restart head at 2:30 saying alarmingly that's it's now up to individuals - my kids masks will be thrown in the trash, that's for sure and how we're "individually" handling it. These COVIDians need to follow the science and statistics.
