Will your DC wear mask to school when Youngkin lifts school mask mandate next week?

It is a shame to see so many people who are willing to allow their kids to be sick in the name of politics. I had hoped we were smarter than that around here.

Me too. Sad because I may have to sit out the rest of the year to protect high risk family members.

I can’t believe how many awful humans there are here. My kid will continue to wear a mask. He’s not “damaged” at all because of it.

Of course my kids will continue to mask as all the health experts recommend it (Twitter doctors don’t count). Youngkin is encouraging people to not follow the rules of their local districts and it is absolutely disgusting. I sure hope there is a legal basis to push back on this.

Since my kids have been vaccinated AND recently had omicron, I will likely send them without a mask since they pose basically no infection risk to anyone. And yes they’re young enough to be incurring harm by not being able to express themselves more confidently (anxiety) and practice speech more clearly with their teachers.

Thankfully.

No way - teacher here - this is a serious deal breaker for me. I was considering maybe we wouldnt need masks anymore last summer, but not right now when we have more cases than ever before and I have more of a chance of catching it.

You all know it’s possible to believe in brakes *and* air bags, yes? We’re in the middle of an unprecedented surge and a hospital crisis.

They won’t lift the mandate, but will be required to allow parents to opt-out their children.

So what will you do if some of your students show up with no masks? Quit?

Out of curiosity, do you teach elementary or middle/high school? Just curious if you have around 20 students total or around 100.

The local health directors all recommend continued indoor masking, as does the CDC and the association of pediatricians. Why do Youngkin voters think they know more than experts? I hate this new Republican Party. All they do is try and “troll the libs” — they have no interest in governing or helping thre people they are supposed to serve.

Hospital crisis. VA hospitals are doing excellent compared to pre-COVID for this time of the year. Hospitals are usually 80% occupied during non-flu seasons, and often fill up during flu seasons.

Right now, VA is at 78% hospital beds occupied and 81% of ICU beds. They're doing amazing. That's what happens when you have a high vaccination rates and a variant is a cold.

My co-worker just sat in urgent care for 80+ hours trying to get a bed.

We have a hospital crisis.

They just want to tear it all down.

So you’ll be fine with kids not wearing masks next month when the omicron wave has passed? (Genuinely curious - not being snarky.)

NP. I have around 120 students and a windowless classroom. I will review all of my options if kids go maskless this year, including using any leave available to me or resigning.
