Will your DC wear mask to school when Youngkin lifts school mask mandate next week?

Curious if students will continue to wear masks in school after the mask mandate is lifted in VA?

Mine will. They can't afford to be sick and miss school. Too many AP.classes.

APS won’t lift the mandate.

Mine will wear theirs until enough other kids stop wearing them. They don’t like to stand out. I’m guessing it will take quite awhile.

Don’t the local school boards decide about masks for their own jurisdictions?

Youngkin said in an interview Wednesday that Virginia would no longer require children to wear masks in schools.

“We’re gonna rescind the mandate that requires K-12 children to wear a mask to school, and we’ve been quite clear about that,” he told WTKR-TV in Norfolk, repeating a point he made while campaigning.

School districts will be able to keep mask recommendations in place, but parents can choose not to follow them, he added.

"The way that Virginia works is that the governor cannot ban mask mandates. Schools make those decisions,” he said. “We will in fact, then, also make sure that schools allow parents to exercise their rights for what’s best for their children, to opt-out of those mandates."

Yes. Because I want to keep schools open.

WTF is wrong with people.

I hope to see a nuanced order that provides exceptions for those opting out such as a mask is required when returning in person for the 5-10 days after a positive test result or ADA reasonable accommodations made in response to requests from families of students who have underlying medical condition(s) making them at risk of severe illness from Covid even if fully vaccinated.

Well that would make medical and scientific sense so dream on. If those things were important, masks would still be required in the middle of a viral surge.

Yes, but if it really makes zero difference, I’d be happy to see that. My kid won’t be first though.

Yes. Members of our household are high risk and we care about not passing covid to them.

Of course my child still will wear a mask until the pandemic is over and I am happy we pulled him out of public school last fall to a private school that will still take necessary precautions.

If Youngkin does this, he just proves he is a Trumpian who is a danger to our safety and our democratic republic. While it seems locally we have reached an Omicorn peak, we don’t want to see the numbers reverse direction by the removal masks. The benefits to the community at large so outweigh the concern about requiring someone wear a face covering all day.

+1 even if it's just a cold, my junior DD was already out sick for a long stretch early in the year (not covid) and doesn't want to miss any more school.
