After graduating from Sidwell Friends School, Nye attended Cornell University, where he studied at the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Nye began his career as a mechanical engineer for Boeing in Seattle, where he invented a hydraulic resonance suppressor tube used on 747 airplanes.

The television show, “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” ran from 1993 to 1998 in national TV syndication. The program was critically acclaimed, and was nominated for 23 Emmy Awards, winning 19, including Outstanding Performer in Children's Programming for Nye himself.

In 2024, Nye was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. On January 4, 2025, Nye was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden.

You seem to have missed the point that pp was offended on Bill Nye’s behalf at being lumped in with the likes of Gorsuch and Kavanaugh.

Yes. The level of your success and importance is not measured by your academic degrees. G and K have had a negative, regressive impact on American society (especially for women, minorities, and marginalized groups). They have used their education and legal skills to enable moral and criminal corruption, and that is a disgrace.

Washington-Liberty in Arlington has Sandra Bullock, Warren Beatty, and Shirley MacLaine. Yorktown has Katie Couric. I’m starting to think the famous alums do tell you a little about the school. All the fun people went to public, and all the boring politicians went to private. Except Jon Bernthal is a fun outlier.
