Does your school have famous alumni?

I asked this question to the WIS HOS and she was not able to answer my question. Is it the case in your school?

Who cares? And who defines famous?

I guarantee she’s able to but not tacky enough to actually answer it.

She should be classy enough to be prepared for the tacky questions. And the answer and out school is ‘yes’. I’m pretty sure the HOS would mention one or two and bush it off with ‘they’re all listed in Wikipedia, I think’.

Yes- they make large donations. It’s no secret.

I think the lack of famous alumni is not specific to WIS; it’s something that also manifests in many other private schools in the area.

This, and why does it matter? Their fame likely had nothing to do with the school.

Yes, and it would drive DCUM crazy because my kid’s school often gets trashed on this forum as not being “academic enough” so I’m not going to name it.

What do the school’s academics necessarily have to do with famous alumni as most naturally think of actors, athletes, musicians, etc.

I guess big tech founders are perhaps similar levels of fame.

As an example, I assume 95 out of 100 times if you asked Gonzaga for a famous alum the first answer would be Caleb Williams.

Sidwell would only be a bit different because of presidents’ kids…though not sure those kids are famous in their own right.

Or a Governor and Congressman

SJC has some NFL players and, of course, Plank (mostly known due to his large donation).

SJC also has Jim Kimsey, founder of AOL (and local restaurateur!) and John Geisse who helped found Target.

I think the Obama girls went to Sidwell - they were pretty famous at the time.

Maybe a high-profile Congressman (AOC as example), but 95% of Congressman are barely famous in their own districts...and completely unknown to a wide audience.
