Barrel shaped pants are so stupid looking

Are you saying those look good on her?

Yes. I think they look cute.

I think some of us are so indoctrinated into the idea that clothes must make women look as thin as possible or they are not "flattering."

This is something Gen Z gets that millennial women seem to struggle with. You don't have to look skinny to look cute. These jeans have a casual, classic vibe. They look lived in and relaxed. If I saw this woman on the street, I'd think she'd look cool. I'm sure she could look thinner and taller in a different style if jeans, but since I don't need women to all look skinny and tall, this is not important to me.

Gen Z generally dress like clowns.

Here is the post: https://nymag.com/strategist/article/madewell-jeans-review-2025.html

And here's how the author looks in them. As mentioned upthread, these really do not have an exaggerated shape (not clown pants). I think the shape essentially allows you to wear a more relaxed pair of jeans without extra fabric around the waist or ankle. I love the look of them:

Those cut off your legs and make them look short.

Who cares? Why does everything you wear is abe to elongate? I'm actually "long and lean" as a body type anyway, and while sometimes I want to accentuate that, we're talking about a pair of jeans I'll wear to run errands or drop my kid off at school. It's fine.

If you don't care, that's fine. But, most women do care. So, it's a PSA to those women.

Short women do not need to be told that these pants will make them look short and wide.

These pants can look great on someone 5'5" or taller, if a slim build (narrow hips, not big busted). You need a frame that is tall and thin enough for the pants to hang/drape. But plenty of women have that. Just because these would look terrible in short, curvy women does not mean no one should wear them.

My 11 yr old got herself some back to school barrels but they are the smaller side of wide and look cute on her. I think they only look good on tweens.

They remind me of a bow-legged cartoon cowboy, getting ready to lasso a horse. Non flattering on everyone.

I wasn't sure how much I was going to like this trend, so I shopped at Old Navy instead of Madewell.

Love these. https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=672551002
